HOW DO I LOAD MAPS? Go into the DUSK game folder (SteamApps/common/Dusk) and find the SDK/mnt/local folder. Inside this folder, create a new folder for your mod (for example: halflife_maps) Then inside that folder, create a new folder called maps. Put all of your BSPs in here. Once you enable your mod in the modding menu, they will be accessible from Campaign -> Custom Level Quake-format maps will require palette.lmp inside the mod folder (halflife_maps in the previous example)

anyways i just noticed that dusk sdk and duskworld interpret sensitivity differently. In dw i play with 0.16 sens and it feels normal. If i put it to the same number in the sdk it feels significantly slower. i also feel like the movement speeds have changed . @still raptor is this what you meant when you said that the game would feel significantly different even tho no numbers would change

The killer for me was the textual decals not being transparent. I was splicing the textures together to create hints like, "DON'T SHOOT"
Another cool idea I had was to play a bullet-deflecting SuperHot going down a hallway, blocking bullets with a bar of soap
They are transparent now you use the right dusk wad or make your own

Also because I am doing the textures 1-by-1 and not batch processed.

Well you can change textures, make custom maps in Trenchbroom, I think you can also mess with the music a little.

Trying to use Dusk textures in JACK, got em all loaded, but they don't seem to want to compile when rendering out the BSP
Therefore the map doesn't work when I try to load into it
It worked fine with Half-Life textures though

So here's my cheat for you
If you're compiling with HLBSP
When you click run
make sure you're in Advanced
have CSG set to -nowadtextures
Now, it will make the map file slightly bigger since it packs the textures in
but imo it beats having to use external wads
also make sure dusktestmap.wad exists in the directory
if you do end up using wads
and make sure you have the wad loaded into the game type you're using and that the textures are actually appearing in the preview

If you want to just play other peoples maps and mods then you can go to moddb and find them there. If you want to make maps then you can use trenchbroom (a quake mapping tool) that makes maps that are compatable with dusks sdk
dont forget to be in the SDK beta branch on steam to have the sdk version of dusk
If you dont even know how to apply mods then i would recomend checking the pins

@sacred flicker open trenchbroom. Open the face tab. Press "texture collections". press the pluss key and open a wad file using the file browser window
when you load it in just tick the box that sais "absoloute" no need to mess with that yet

if you want entities specifically from dusk, head over to the pinnned messages and get "entities.txt'
that contains all the entity names that dusk maps can use, and to use it simply place any entity and rename it in the "entity" tab to anything from that list

you'd use a trigger_changemusic brush entity, with a music key/value pair, the filepath to the music (relative to the mod's folder itself) being the value

Other things ended up taking priority so releasing the hotfix got thrown on the backburner for a bit
Hey, so when I'm going in to manually do the vis stuff, do I just texture the empty faces with a completely transparent texture? Or is there a specific way to delete/non-render the faces?
In JACK, you'll want to set the faces to the NULL texture
NULL TO SELECTED is a good tool to use

the other map had a way that you couldnt bounce rockets off the death zones like the lava. Might be nice here.

I can stream normal Dusk fine but the SDK nets me a black screen
@ocean apex Likely a Vulkan issue, you can try running the game with -force-glcore on the command line

I'm confused by the 2 minute tutorial. I'm trying to drag over dusk.wad but it doesnt work? I'm following what he did
on trenchbroom
click "face" in the top right
then at the bottom, in "texture collections", click "show" on the right
and then drag dusk wad in there
in that small white window

Nope, all Ive done so far was just see how to get it all working and make the same map he made in the 2 minute tutorial
need to learn the actual interface of trenchbroom I guess to actually make the maps
if you want entities specifically from dusk, head over to the pinnned messages and get "entities.txt'
that contains all the entity names that dusk maps can use, and to use it simply place any entity and rename it in the "entity" tab to anything from that list

ive done a few maps and mods for original doom using doombuilder so seems a bit similar
wanted to try my hand at making a few movement maps like the new rivetrun one. So won't need to worry about enemies too much. Playtesting seems a bit like a pain though since after each change you have to re convert it to bsp and stuff?
yeah you have to compile each time, but you dont have to leave the game or even the map
just restart it from the menu and you're good
i use a compiling GUI to make the process a bit easier on myself
oh okay. Dusk takes a bit to boot up so thats nice I don't have to restart each time
is it that necro compiling gui or something. I saw a comment about that
yeah dumptruck_ds shows how to use it if you want it
pretty useful in terms of not needing to manually do the compiling and a quick access to compile options
like light compiling things or -bsp2 you get it
yea, especially on the maps I wanna make I think will take a lot of trial and error through playing
finding spacing and tricks
you can also set up an output folder for the .bsp to be placed automatically where you want it
i never bothered with that tho
