Is it a hottake to say this game's level design is kind of hit and miss? Bought it 2 days ago and finished it today. Some of the levels felt kind of doom 2-esque in how directionless they are.

I'd need to go through the campaign again to call out specific ones, but in some levels it felt like the design was very set-piece oriented, with good chunks of the area having no real combat but instead just wandering around to find enclosed spaces with pockets of enemies. The game's movement feels great, the strafehopping feels a ton like blood but that kind of movement really complimented the more open and complex arena like levels that kept feeding in enemies as you progress rather than those that had you going back and forth to find sections of combat.
Cinematic type levels like those at the very end not counting, of course

If you keep moving all around the place it's quite likely that you won't get hit
Also I used the cigar quite a lot during downtime when looking for secrets or admiring shit so I didn't really have to enter a new fight with low health
And in a big arena you can just go full speed and not get hit
And there are opportunities to cheese stuff, and I find them fun personally
Like there's a big battle in one of the maps and you can just keep jumping out of the arena to get teleported back, and that absolutely screws up the enemies' ability to track you
And you cannot really get hit while outside until you're teleported back
The game never cramps you in a small space with many enemies, you're always given some room for movement
Except for maybe one or two monster closets that can suck a dick
