Why won't the pacifist award unlock on The Gauntlet level? I've honestly played it about 50 times without the boss losing any health but it still won't unlock. So frustrating.
Is he being caught in his own blast radius for his grenades?
Wait enemy self damage count against the pacifist award?

It's because all explosions in the game are treated the same
So your explosions, explosions from enemy attacks, and explosions from barrels
You cannot allow an enemy to get hit by an explosion (other than the welders death I think) if you want pacifist

Could it be a barrels? I know there are some parts to brimstone where monsters will shoot barrels on accident most of the time.

@high skiff brimstone ghetto is doable, the part that is likely giving you trouble is the underground train tunnel after you exit the vent. Drop a quick or manual save before you leave that vent and just try and try again.
I honestly think if the barrels were removed from that tunnel, that level would be easy to get pacifist on.
Could you be fast enough to remove barrels from the equation? like just throwing the barrels into corners or something?

So if you pick up one, then an other 5 seconds later, you fire at 2x speed for 5 seconds, 4x for 10 seconds, and then again 2x for 5 seconds

2 teams
with 5 classes
The ranger uses the sniper rifle (you know that one) and has 100 health
The scout dual wields shotguns and has 100 health
The soldier has a riveter and has 150 health
The medic has a pistol and he can click on team mates to heal them, and has 150 health
and the heavy has a machine gun and 200 health
The scout is the only one who can slide
So the game basically is payload, the soldiers try to push the bomb into the cultists whatever
now i am incapable of executing this so yeah
the idea is up for grabs

to deal less damage
buff the mg's fire rate a little

like for example dusk is missing some quake stuff (BUT will support it later) and has a couple half-life features like breakable things

I really think "e2m3_ambient.ogg" or something like that is missing from the SDK files
Accessible is pretty amazing for kids. It let's them have the full combat experience of the game without them discouraged by lots of tutorial hints or monster handholding. In Doom, the easier difficulty simply means less enemies. My kids are out for blood! He wanted slaughter and carnage, and the arena gave him one.

E1M5 uses e1m5_ambient, e1m7_boss_1_loop and e1m7_boss_2_loop
E1M6 is fine. E1M7 uses e1m7_action_loop (of which there are an hq and an lq version for some reason) and miniboss_1.
Then there's E1M8 with e1m7_ambient (which has the easter eggs) and e1m8_gates
And E1M9 uses the e1m8 ones that arent _gates

To make matters more confusing, levels don't directly reference the music they use
Every level contains all of the music in the game, and the levels just have a number that corresponds to where the music is in that big list of music
Also some are flac and some are ogg
That's deliberate
We have some of the tracks as .wav, and some are .ogg
I converted the .wavs to .flac to keep file size down, but I left the .ogg files alone because they're already compressed and going further would lower their quality
The only example where audio was double-compressed is with the fork maiden audio, they're MP3 in the project, and they were converted to OGG in the SDK
Like Sawdust music is called "e1m4 boss" even if the level is fifth one

and there are no bosses in e1m5

Fun fact: even though the Meat Lass only ragdolls in all of the publicly available alphas it's present in, it actually did have a death animation at one point

Bug found in Dusk (didn't know where else to post it). When playing the game with the hud turned OFF, pressing the B button on the xbox 360 controller turns the flashlight On/Off, but it also turns the hud back ON. To turn it back off again, I have to press the +/= key on the keyboard again. It seems that the B button on the controller is bound to using the flashlight, but also a function that turns the minimal sized hud back on (but doesn't act like the minus key, to make the hud larger each time it's used, it just shows the small hud on the right side of the screen). I'd fix this myself, but due to the closed nature of Unity games, I don't know how to unbind and rebind the controller buttons.
Oh yes, it's only for the controller. The bug does not occur when using the keyboard.
I injured my shoulders and trying to play with a mouse and keyboard is painful.

Dusk with a controller is pretty good. Amid Evil controls a little better while Ion Fury isn't very good at all and actually works better with something like Xpadder to handle the aiming. I'd say it's completely playable, but you might want to lower the difficulty. Of course, you can't play with the same proficiency as when using a mouse and you're not going to pull off 180 degree turns or quick headshots, but I've been able to play through the episodes without difficulty.
I call it a bug because I can't rebind it. Is there a way I can change bindings myself? Is there some sort of console or command line variable or autoexec.cfg file I can edit?

In the Dusk/config folder is a file called dusk.ini with some commands and key bindings, but I don't see the controller bindings.

I played Doom 16 with a controller once
today i learned that all spread based weapons in dusk have a rectangle-limited spread (pistols, shotguns, assault rifle)
and also i found out that a single pistol has a purpose - it's more accurate holy shit
left - double pistols
right - one pistol, same distance
there is no difference between the double shotgun and a single shotgun however
neat
here are the weapons ranked on their spread
SSG, Double/single shotgun, assault rifle, double pistols, single pistol

I realised that as soon as I gave myself fast fire 5 times and fired at a wall

Also, rivets are affected by knockback and if you manage to make your beam of rivets dense enough they will fly all over the place from the explosions

Also the accuracy debuff on the dual pistols is the reason I barely use them

The reason they have a rectangular spread instead of a normal spread is because it feels more "fair," and means you're better able to spray for mob control or use shotgun blasts to kill multiple enemies

Also the mortar adds your momentum to the grenade's when firing in singleplayer. But not in multiplayer.
Which makes me use the mortar in only very specific situations in the campaign.
Considering how big the momentum Duskdude is moving with is, I know why it feels completely unreliable most of the time to me.
CS games have this mechanic, but there the throws aren't something you want to continuously hit the enemy with during combat, but rather occasional moves in specific situations that you've already set up.
If the mortar was as simple in SP asn in MP I'd probably find it much more usable.

pretty sure my grenades went to the same place consistently when I tried it by firing from the same spot, at the same angle, with different movement
thats because it factors in your movement twice as much
so you reach the sort of terminal velocity of a grenade far easier
It absolutely doesn't seem to be the case
Launch velocity appears to be completely consistent
I'm jumping up and down on a jump pad, firing in the same direction, and the grenades all follow the same trajectory and explode within the same amount of space as the space my jumps take up
Did this with strafing and moving back and forth on the ground too
More simply put, my shots go where I'm aiming, and I don't mind that, even if it's unintentional.
Ummmm.... Why does the riveter do 20 self damage up close but 30 from farther away?
Wait. So it does 20 at the center, 10 at the edge. I am guessing they overlap at a certain distance and add together.

I am absolutely fine with my shots going where I'm aiming, though.
Weird inconsistencies worry me a lot more than shots not going all over the place, so I don't think the latter should really be a priority if there's anything to be done.
I'm not complaining. It's just that this is a very minor, and actually rather pleasant thing compared to some other things.
Which I have also accepted as they are at this point. Duskworld is a bit of a janky mess and that might just be its essence so I'm fine with it personally.

yeah, the mortar grenades are the only thing that inherity velocity in dusk
and in early versions, it did not
but that was changed along the way after player feedback

Because otherwise the movement speed would be disproportionally large compared to projectile speed. Scout is pretty fast, though, so a large part of his gameplay is compensating for it in order to land pellets... Which I suck at like many others since the usual way of thinking is "where to shoot in relation to the map" rather than "where to shoot in relation to my position"
yeah, theres a weird learning curve to that kind of thing
thats also why being able to detonate mortars is helpful in dusk
you dont have to hit your target, just get near them
direct hits with the mortar provide zero additional damage

One way of doing this would be to ignore both vertical player velocity and strafe velocity, only keeping forward/backward speed
So you have the ability to control range with movement, with the grenades still going in the direction you're aiming
we tried that, unfortunately it just feels extremely unnatural
duskworld 2.0 might switch it up a bit
but i doubt the base single player game will change
ofc you will be able to mod it
and who knows, if a mod like that were to prove very popular, we could always roll the changes into the base game
we prefer to listen to what our players want
theyre the ones that have to play the game after all
If the problem was just that they were slow, they could be made faster, perhaps with increased gravity
A higher speed would also make the speed addition less disturbing, though.

have to be strafing for the speed boost from continued bunnyhopping to kick in, and once the speed boost is there you don't have to keep strafing, just keep bunnyhopping

Make sure you jump continuously. It gives you a noticeable speed boost in a second or two. A few jumps won't be that noticeable
To jump continuously, it's best to just hold the jump key when hitting the ground. You will jump automatically as long as you've re-pressed the button since your last jump.

you can swap diagonals, you can keep going in one diagonal direction, momentum doesn't stop as long as you're holding a diagonal and spamming jump

Dusk has:
-a higher movement speed when strafing AND moving forward/backward at the same time because the speed vectors just add together (afaik)
-speed boost from continuous jumping, which increases and isn't actually lost if you hit a wall (I think)

Playing through Dusk for the first time. Man, E1M6 made me sweat, made me feel like I was in that movie The Descent with the way the light plays with fov
man a dusk level as scary as that movie would make me piss my pants that's kind of a good idea
As far as I know FOV is completely static in Dusk (besides zooming)

The fov is static, but when you get in those dark areas with only your flash light, it really messed with my perception, that's what I mean
It becomes incredibly claustrophobic

Hey everyone! There was a tweet a while ago from the dev (like two months ago on Twitter), looking for translators. I sent an email that I'm up for doing the Hungarian translation, but haven't heard back anything. Does someone have any info regarding localization?
I'd probably just hit up Dave via Twitter DM and ask

I did the same last year and Dave sent me the documents. I did the German translation and have heard back very sporadically. Eventually it was comissioned to several translation studios, none of which seem to have been able to meet NB's quality standards. My translations ended up in game to 90%, but I haven't heard much from NB or the translation studio since. One of the Admins did take the time and send very comprehensive answers to how the process went and stuff, so that's cool I guess.
Oh, wow, so it wasn't without bumps. I just checked the tweet, and I was wrong, it happened in last November.

There isn't a lot to be translated, though. Just the occasional subtitles, menus, flavor texts, that's it.
