I hope Newblood for their next FPS title does non-bullet hit-scan weapons
not many games do that and it would be nice
things like Shogo's Juggernaut
hit-scan weapon with an explosion
there are other combinations that could be done
I really like the non hitscan shotgun they have in arcane dimensions

like imagine the Biorifle from UT, if the projectile was either instant or so fast that it was basically equivalent to being instant.

@thorn trout DUSK rocket jumping is kinda wonky tho. Like you can hit your head on a ceiling and then get out from under it then keep going, the height is unpredictable to humans, and a lot of other quirks. Not to say that it's bad, it's super fun and fits DUSK's fast speed, but I don't think rocket jumping would be challenging with the riveter
Are there any changes applied to the function of explosive jumping in it?
It's just some pogo's , wall jumps and a mortar + riveter jump

I take the not challenging part back you could totally make some rad jump maps if you set things up right
haven't tried much yet i just made it in a few days just for testing purposes, and rn i can't(?) use clip brushes so the player is blocked by a wall but projectiles are not

Just going to lurk, in general.
Still, going to say this.
I tend to be rather skeptical of most old-school Doom successors. Largely because while most of them do understand the "action" part of Doom, they don't get the "atmosphere" part that made games like Doom 2, Quake 1, or Doom 64 truly memorable.
But one of my friends pushed me to try Dusk, saying that it actually nailed both the action and atmosphere, not just the action.
... and I didn't regret it whatsoever.
I absolutely loved both the fast action and level design, but also the horror elements and general atmosphere. Don't know if others have pointed it out... but the atmosphere and general "feel" of the levels really contributed to me feeling this game is one of the best games I've played in years. And for sure, is the best FPS I've played in a very, very long time.
So yeah, just wanted to drop that. Dunno if it will be read but felt like saying it.

I don't know exactly how it is animated but, it would help tons and would look even better than the rips
Projectiles are manageable, not that hard since its just a simple geometry + textures, but asset explorers can't get the guns + anims

JUST officially beat Dusk Episode 2 yesterday. So satisfying. The Guardian in the prison suit was interesting, is that based on something?
I had started Episode 3 when it first came out but restarting it to enjoy fully.
I'm a couple levels into episode 3 now. It's definitely...a departure from the other episodes.
I've played episode 1+2 a bunch but I still haven't dived into 3 yet
3 is probably my favorite, flavor-wise

Ever thought that throwable objects in Dusk are overpowered?
Not really since they're hard to use efficiently

they are insanely powerful and can block projectiles but they have plenty of flaws attached to them
not being able to fit in certain areas, smaller objects being harder to catch again, not every object doing sufficient damage, most of them can break, they can be hit mid-throw causing them to veer off course, availability, etc.
metal box does not have most of those flaws and deals 1000 damage tho 
they also don't speed up time with superhot mode

really weird behaviour, when i alt-tab to another window it runs fine, and it also runs fine on my other 1080p monitor
sounds like a configuration issue
tried switching between window/fullscreen mode, and changing resolution, which didn't help, is there somewhere i should be looking? like a config file?
its more likely to be something with your OS/driver settings than the game

you can try the exclusive fullscreen patch but im not certain that will help
also if you havent already, make sure vsync is off
turned off g-sync and the problem went away
very strangely, turning g-sync on again afterwards didn't cause the problem to come back
going to try restarting to see if i can reproduce the behaviour, it's weird
it's just gone now, can't reproduce it

And the game never registered the soap pickup

If you just want to mess around literally all you have to do is overwrite the texture/sound files. If you want to make a mod for distribution you just create new files in a mod/textures/ or mod/sounds/ folder with the appropriate names

It wasn't a suggestion. Unreal/Unity I think are the obvious choice for most developers, with Unity in particular if the title isn't a AAA funding level project.
Unreal engine seem to be for mid sized developers trying to "punch above their weight" with some really awesome (Hellblade) and really bad (Agony) results.

Any engine is only as good as the developer using it... or the source code that's available. 
with infinite resources any engine would be good as any other, but since all developers operate on tight budgets, engine flexibility and functionality are paramount

So I was about to install some mods and noticed that the SDK folder leads into a folder with all of the game's music files in it, including the songs that aren't on the soundtrack, and songs that simply don't play at all.
Interesting that E1M1 and E3M7 have action tracks that you never hear simply because they never play.

I'm not complaining, since the shotguns are my favorite weapons in this game. Just though I'd point this out.
I think that only happens if you have a number of shells that's close to 50, and you pick up a shotgun that you equip, instead of just using it for ammo

And you have 49 shells, you pick up a shotgun and you go to 55

Who can I talk to, to get some help with learning how to code the quake like movement Dusk has, in the game i'm developing? I'm coding in C++ unfortunately, and not C#.
@blazing perch C# has pretty much identical syntax to c++, if you know c++ you know c#. I never had to study or change anything when I picked up csharp.
If you intend to make movement systems you'd best pick an engine and search up a relevant tutorial. once you know the basics from there you can make new stuff. That's at least what I've been doing and it seems to be working.
So I'm rather new to coding. I'm using the engine "Godot".

I wouldn't go that far, in fact that can be a rather dangerous statement to teach someone
For example, C# has a concept of a "destructor", but it's completely different to what a destructor is in C++ despite having the same syntax
And if you use it like a C++ destructor, you'll give yourself nothing but problems
C# also has distinct differences between the class and struct keywords (in C++ both of those are rougly equivalent to C#'s struct, they just differ in the default member visibility)
Misunderstanding how destructors work in C# actually lead to a really bad bug in the third party Steam API wrapper we used in Dusk

idk, C++ does a lotta things I both love and hate, could do with some better std libraries, could do with less of... whatever the fuck is that compiler errors use to insult your momma when something goes wrong
and not take 30 years to compile shit
It has some good things, but for me personally the bad outweighs the good

I'd still go with C++ instead of C# when needed tho
Dunno, modern C# under .NET Core has some pretty nice performance metrics
The main things I find useful about C++ are operator overloads, which are very useful for say, making a fixed point number type
Or making math-related types like vectors and matrices more comfortable to use
If performance is a concern it's usually nothing I can't achieve in regular C with some design changes
that with some metaprogramming is p. good to simplify some very specific code
that sometimes can be necessary to achieve perf. on very limited setups

Gonna (try to) mix Quake like movement with dusk like combat

Only issue is... is trying to code in quake like movement. I have normal movement, now I just need to figure out how to translate code that basically does the same as the QuakeC code does in Quake... from C++ to GDscript
Quake movement is pretty simple to implement
afaik the actual movement isn't exposed via QuakeC though

see the thing is. I found someone elses code on Github that has already translated that code into C++
PM_GroundMove is probably the place to start
It's C code so there'd be no real need to translate it to C++
The issue I'm currently facing is now taking that and turning it into GDscript for Godot
I have no experience with GDscript so I couldn't help there
The C code linked above is pretty simple though so I don't imagine it'd be too hard to figure out
It's like a mixture of C, C++, Rust, and then GDscript to bind them together
At the bottom of that file there's a function called PlayerMove, which is the main function for player movement, so if you start translating from there it should be mostly smooth sailing
