I just woke up and had a really vivid dream about there being an expansion for DUSK,
where you play as one of the soldiers and start off in a facility that had a Half Life type platform elevator, two dead soldiers next to you, and monitors on the wall with fuzzy tv type static on them.
But the room you started off in was also dark with nothing but a red emergency light illuminating it.

one of the most useful features in dusk is the ability to quickly swtich to a previous weapon because its binded to q
so you can pick to weapons with the number keys and switch between them
I keep riveter and super shotgun bound to mouse button 5 and 6 respectively for duskworld. Easy access.

alright i think i have fixed it.
i used a macos tool called EasyFind (basically an actually good version of the default Spotlight search tool) and cleaned out all my unity/dusk files and folders. (easy for me to do, without worrying about breaking anything because this is my only unity game). i also made sure to keep my saves, saveimages, and savebin folders (located same place as the config folder)
i suspect the cause of the error was changing dusk's res while streaming it on discord's GoLive feature
if someone wants me to try to reproduce the error, i will, but it might be such a rare issue it's not worth anyone's time.

but like morale is more efficient than health points because every block takes out 1 morale whereas getting hit by a fireball can kill instantly or take 20 points
I use the sword in nightmare runs. Been trying to find better places to incorporate it.

does the SDK mean just maps, or any sort of in-game modification?
never done anything like this before.
it means a lot of things, and im not quite sure what all of the things entail, but when it releases you will:
-Be able to make maps
-Port maps from Quake 1-3, Half-Life games, Source games(?)
-Edit enemies and guns
later on we'll get stuff like scripting and be able to do some more code changey-type things/ make new entities, etc.
I believe it's just loading bsp maps and model swaps at first

- Load Quake, Quake 3, Half-Life and BSP2 maps. This includes custom ones.
- Replace any 3D model, sound, font or texture in the game with a custom one.
- Customize the appearance of in-game enemies, weapons and objects.
- Replace objects with other objects (replace every enemy with Big John!)

what if the bfg equivalent in dusk was a weapon that dealt just enough damage just to kill anything up to a cultist?

On the stream dave mentioned reaching out to valve to pitch an official crossover for playing hl in dusk
I think he meant with HL's entities, music, etc
I'd hope some stuff is adjusted like hallway length and width to accomodate your speed, and maybe different solutions to the same problems (like duskdude blowing open a door that gordon would have a scientist open) like shovel knight's plague knight dlc
But that would be ambitious

Though, I'll be removing most of the scripted stuff like doors and events, because we literally cant use them yet

Sometimes you gotta do it multiple times when it’s being really fininicky. I think they said they were going to do a duskworld update sometime after the sdk, but idk. It still works pretty good most of the time. No prob.

What surprises me the most about dusk is that David had practically no experience with making of fpses and mapping, yet the game turned out to be awesome

Also the dusk's early theme is very cool too
Dusk is the most fun I've had with a shooter in almost a decade.
Stalker - esque theme is, in my opinion, much better than ||Lovecraftian clusterfuck theme||
the first time i saw the game i was like "this dude gets it"
And the final boss was supposed to be the zone itself
Which is very cool
The first episode is my favorite
But if the game would take a stalker turn then we'd never see the awesome clusterfuck that is the later levels
Hmm, I'm somewhat tired of the rust ridden post-apocalyptic urban setting myself, but there's nothing wrong with it. What made Dusk's levels so good was the seamless combination of "realistic" environments and more otherworldly or abstract environments that were made strictly to compliment the gameplay.

Feedback is extremely important. It's easy to lose track and become desensitized to the feel of your levels if you work on them for long.
Especially when you as a designer knows exactly where to go and what to do and what was intended at all times.
my favourite part of dusk dev was when I found a bug in homecoming that broke audio in the entire game and it took david like a month to figure out how to fix it

the alignment issues were mostly due to probuilder sucking on that regard
with realtime csg or whatever they're using it's gonna be a non issue now
I think the misalignments make it look shitty in a good way

I played Dusk MP, and it "feels" like the game is too fast for the network to code to compensate for.
But the MP in Dusk is really, really fast and I don't recall any other games at this level of speed that didn't have some sort issue.
Around the same time as we had the predictive-netcode and lag-compensated netcode revolutions, we also tranisitioned from fast paced AFPS games to slow hit-scan based shooters.
So I'm not sure if a MP game where players move this fast, is going to be possible without complications.
I feel like if the same code had been used in Amid Evil, which is much slower, that there would not have been an issue.

Zombie mentioned some details about exporting / converting models earlier (or was it yesterday?)
I think they said there's a tool included to convert to the proper format
beside that not that I know of
He mentioned 2 or 3 tools for exporting / converting models in particular, but I can't seem to find it...
Oh, it was actually on the steam forums... "There are export plugins for various versions of Blender available here[github.com]. If you have models in existing formats you'd like to convert, Noesis[richwhitehouse.com] can help you with that, in addition to some tools we'll be publishing for the SDK soon."
