they aren't actually clipping since Unity normalizes everything, but I use the sound of a clipped impact at the beginning to make weapons sound more forceful.
I overdid it a bit with the pistols in Dusk
but I've learned since then
I beefed up the beretta sound in MA with the same approach, but I used separate samples for the low and high ranges of a secondary longer impact in addition, and controlled the bass a bit more
Same with Mossberg but that also has a bit of separation between the impact sound and the falloff echo which helps make the impact feel a bit more like an impact without having to overdo the clipping effect

Incidentally they did a similar thing in Condemned, where every melee impact sound is SUPER CLIPPED, making them sound really violent and dirty, like the speakers can't even really express the assault that's happening

There seems to be a little bug when trying to remap next weapon and previous weapon to l2 and r2 on my controller. Using a Logitech F310. I moved secondary fire and shooting to l and r and they work fine, but weapon switching doesn't work. When I changed it back to how it was, then it works. Reason I changed it is cause l2 and r2 on this controller are very awkward for me to use.

hey, I can't get DUSK to go past the "loading tunes" screen. I've tried waiting for a long time and all it does is completely crash after 5 or so minutes. Does anyone have a solution?

well dusk has like 2 levels i'd describe as "arenas" for one
and the bunnyhopping is superficial
you can bhop literally all the time in both games (Painkiller and Dusk)
because for example quake has bunnyhopping but it's much more for speedrunning then combat
and Dusk has a ton of arenas, but just two levels really are entirely arenas, you're right about that
what's an "arena" in your mind
that doesn't change that the way you fight in most areas is similar, for both games

Well, Painkiller has level design if you're only talking about the first game and not the shitty knockoffs that came out later 
But it's a very different kind
it's still a gross very basic level design
It's arena after arena but it's done in a very specific way that I think flows well
and none of the later games managed to capture that
