What I'm curious about, is whether or not Dusk exists in the same universe as Quake..... with Nyalarthotep being one of the great old ones along with Shub-Niggarath it's feasible. I know it's not cannon or anything, but I guess it could work, especially with Dusk being something of an homage to Quake and similar games of the time

I think while the two are similar, they have a different tone. In Dusk, it's a pretty bad ending, and there's a lot more storytelling, it executes lovecraftian horror more accurately storywise where Quake (in which you kill one of the great old ones and it excecutes a lovecraftian horror story worse) has a much more morose and dark atmosphere, aesthetic

i enjoy it quite a lot. there's a patch that just came out to buff some of the more underwhelming weapons, adjust some other smaller problems people had with the game. performance still needs some work but the dev is actively working away at the game and it's in good hands i think. @heady furnace civvie had a good video on it a few weeks ago

first episode takes ~9-11 hours to finish on average as far as i know.

but once you finish that first episode you'll have to restart on a new save because of how the game does the upgrades and such. there's plans to put in an endless side activity for those who want to do that

it didn't really work so they just stopped doing them in favor of crappy cosmetic DLC packs that were overpriced

its a lot of work just to get a very barebones solution, and obviously we relied on some unet stuff which has since been deprecated, so we're stuck with old unity version etc

on top of not having a great relay/matchmaking solution

which i know many of those frameworks provide

yea, thats why i started checking out forge. as much as its not liked, p2p for smaller games is so crucial

yep! it was an absolute pain and has only caused us problems, but i cant argue that its not good to have that feature, as well as nobody having to mess with port forwarding etc

but tbh, it was just completely overwhelming to consider porting the current version of dusk to it

however, the game is being completely rewritten for our modding sdk

so that version may end up leaning on their example structure

dusk was never planned to have multiplayer, so the MP is actually like a fork of a super early version of dusk

so theres differences all over the place, etc
