dusk runs on unity
sort of like the PK engine. But without the whole crashing and burning thing.
I know Dusk is unity, but the stuff he did to it to make it feel like a quake engine game is mostly perfect.
Maybe its not really that complicated to simulate the feeling of quake? IDK
But I played through a bunch of 90s shooter recently, lots of them had horrible movement, momentium and collision systems. Quake is one of the few engines from that area that was great in those respects, and Dusk nails that feeling too

Nah, there's gonna be a NG+ mode with additional content, something about utilizing the powers you get in the end
All that's been confirmed though is that there's gonna be some sort of NG+ with a cool twist. The powers thing comes from Dave at the booth and some hints in the discord. Remixed maps hasn't been confirmed per se.
But I'd imagine something of that sort as well, like remixed enemies or something...

I had mine set to 144 even though my monitor is only 60hz, so it probably led to improper frame pacing

duskmare isnt actually all that hard a lot of the challenge just comes from your ability to not save scum
like anyone can play duskmare if you just mash the quicksave after you kill an enemy
but if you dont save a lot for the added challenge then yeah its pretty hard
yeah but that doesn't sound fun

It's also not fun to use soap on duskmare
takes away all the challenge
same goes for like boulders and shit guns are more fun than hauling 3 boulders to every fight and instakilling everything
it feels really good to beat a duskmare level without dying once though
I feel like I'd need to study the maps and secrets before attempting duskmare, and yeah, lots of save scumming lol
duskmare is not fun, its only useful if you do untouchable
you just press E instead of Esc to restart the level

i played almost all of doom 2016 without a hud
If you play on Nightmare you die basically instantly anyway
and the game is centered around outmanuevering ur enemies in combat situations
and the game had the red circle around the screen when ur actually hurt
it's pretty easy to gauge how hurt you are even without a hud (I took a direct hit from something so im probably like going to die in the next hit lul)
makes you notice stuff like health and armor shards more because you dont know if you need it or not
its a lot more fun without a hud
like i can't play Doom 2016 with a hud anymore
in dusk i like having a hud for a few reasons, mostly because the levels are non linear enough for me to actually have to physically look at what keycards i have and duskdude doesnt put his gun down like doomguy does in Doom 2016 when he has no ammo, there's no visible difference between a SSG with ammo and an SSG with no ammo for example
SSG is half opened with empty barrels if you dont have ammo for it

like i expect to use the SSG and then the game auto switches me to something else
im not sure if it's exactly how it works but im pretty sure the game auto switches you to the closest available weapon if ur out of ammo for something, like if ur out of assault rifle ammo it switches to dual pistols and if ur out of riveter ammo it switches to the mortar because of those weapons are kind of similar to one another
regardless I'd prefer if it just went "clickclickclickclick" and then I could make my own choice on what weapon to use idk if there's a thing in the options menu to disable that but if i could i would

I was messing with doing this sort of PBR texturing with super low res nearest-neighbor filtered textures
but the thing that I got curious about and I'm wondering about with your render as well
just Marmoset, an albedo and a normal map
it feels like the biggest issue with this look is that all the specular is still done per-pixel instead of per-texel
was considering the use of roughness and such, but it kinda works with less stuff
yea. I tried with high res normals and low diffuse, but less charming
or a pixelated, yet smoothed high res normal map, with weird results
lol yeah NN diffuse + bilinear normal map looks very strange

if ur smart you can open the door then jump out of the way
like it'll trick you the first time then on subsequent playthroughs you can jump back and not fall into the pit

and the crossbow literally lets you cheese monster closets if you just think like a map designer
if youre ever in a narrow hallway with a single collectible at the end of it and you crossbow into the walls youll probably hit something

plus if you got startled and jumped ur crosshair would jump too,

But it compiles down to IL (which is the same bytecode format C# compiles down to)
It was eventually discontinued because Unity Technologies didn't want to maintain it anymore, and very few people actually used it

It treats Unity as more of a framework
Because Unity itself doesn't really offer the kind of functionality necessary for modding in the style of Quake and Doom
So between version A of unity and version B of unity is nothing compatible or can you not Ctrl v anything into version b

before realizing half the reason unity was a big thing initially was cross platform support

It uses a CharacterController to move the character around, but the actual physics and such are custom
So it's mainly used for collision checking

You could create a port that requires the player to copy the game files onto their phone

And you'd be free to distribute that, as long as you didn't include the game files yourself

like getting out of the map isn't a bug because that's literally just there's not an invisible wall above the trees

the buildings are textured with a window pattern
if you get on top of those buildings, youll see that even the ceiling is made of windows

I mean to be fair I liked the game when I played episode 1 it wasn't until episode 2 that I thought it was great
just a lot slower paced and sometimes it lacks variety to me, but it's still good
2 and 3 are easily my favorites
and episode 3 launched it into one of my favorite games ever
1 isn't my favorite but I still appreciate it for what it is
i like episode 1 because playing throught e1 is ,,easier'' to do
because e1 is simply and e2 and e3 are wild rides

On Escher Labs, I stack all of the barrels against the westmost wall of the cylinder Mama comes out of
and then i shoot it with the pistol and you can set mama on fire through the wall
then i simply leave the room, equip the cigar, go afk, and make food while mama burns to death

is i used to just donkey kong
There's one barrel in the room that isnt explosive
and you take that barrel and an explosive barrel, put them next to each other
hit the button
shoot the explosive barrel to set the non-explosive one on fire
and just chuck it at her and run
its fucking hilarious what you can do with the physics in this game

and if you press the quick melee while ur holding an item, you can melee the item in place
you could probably quick melee a barrel while ur holding it and detonate it at will

I get into the shiny bright room in e1m2 and get all the items. after that i strafe jump to the part where shit goes down and spray my 30 crossbow boltss trough the wall. Cleaned Up the level
