I was in this discord a while ago but left because I didn't talk too much and it made clutter, I decided to read some of my old comments on the game that I made a year ago and I'd like to make them relevant again :)
•I mentioned an idea of an enemy that is reactive to your flashlight. Perhaps an enemy that would spawn in really dark places and then if you turned on your flashlight they would turn invisible and attack you, which makes you fight them in really dark places with your flashlight off, or maybe an enemy that's really fuckin fast and scary and will beat u up but they stop when you shine your flashlight on them
•You know how you can cook viscera? Include a salt and pepper shaker that lets you season the meat and it restores more health or somethin, also it gives you an achievement for being crafty with your dusk cooking :]
•While we're at it how about we form a coalition to add the "cooking simulator" tag to dusk, we can do that right now if we want to
•A room that contains lotion (already in the game!) and a box of tissues, and if u use both, you blow your nose and care for ur skin obviously and get some morale back
•yo i suggested that you could add a numerical input next to the "sensitivity" slider so that you could input the exact sensitivity you want. when i wrote that, it was just a slider and if you wanted to make it specific you had to edit the config files, but the numeric input is in the final game!!!!! idk if it was my doing but thank you so much
•this isn't a suggestion but i did have a theory that the reason the cigar zooms in so much is because duskdude just puts the cigar up to his eye like a telescope that made me laugh
•a secret area that has a table full of like hundreds of beers, and naturally every player is gonna want to chug all of them, right? but when you drink the first beer, an invisible timer starts up. when the player inevitably inhales the ~150 beers lined up on the table, there's text on the screen that says like, "IT TOOK 00:00:32.51 SECONDS TO DRINK THEM ALL" and then the player would be like "lmao"

the armor in the game is represented as morale, which makes sense because the entire game involves going deeper into the cult environment and seeing the fucked up stuff they do so if ur morale is low it's easier to succumb to the stuff the cult has to offer and stuff and if your morale is high the dusk dude is like determined to fight against the cult and all that cool stuff
but at the start of the game
u spawn with 75 morale
which means the duskdude, after being hung underground on meathooks

also y'all know that the sickle can reflect stuff right
if you hit a projectile with the sickles it reflects back in the direction you're aiming at
i'm playing around with it because i just discovered you can do this and like
you can reflect scarecrow bullets
the stuff that the goats spit at you
i would assume basically any projectile
come to think of it, the low tech achievement seems a lot more feasible
now that i know that you can basically just reflect any projectile and throw shit at the melee only dudes
i think the sword can do it too
idk about the spin melees
actually the sword can reflect with the block which is much more feasible
also tas mode when i want to be able to shoot people behind me by doing skillful front flips and shooting them upside down
@jagged ferry you can't spin to reflect things though that would be very cool
if you were shooting at things with the assault rifle or something you could reliably parry an enemy's attack which would not only be a reward for being skillful at the game but it would flow pretty nicely
like if you're shooting something and they arent flinching and they shoot you
you can be like "get that shit out of here" and then keep shooting at them

Somebody's Poisoned the Waterhole is what you get when you defeat the Chomper, which is a boss. I'm surprised that's the rarest achievement because it should come naturally just from playing

This is kind of an odd question, but can I use Dusk assets in a Doom .wad? Working on something Dusk-related again, and wanted to know the official word.
Obviously won't be monetized or sold or able to be used for say ripping the OST.

you need to set wad's per episode and map
For instance E1M1 for the very first map
But with Doom 2 it's literally just MAP 1 - 32 (With the last two being secret levels)

hey man, he's fast, but he's no DOOMGuy. if we assume the rockets from cowgirls are roughly the same damage as doom's cyberdemons, revenants, and etc rockets, then DUSKDude falls in a couple of rockets, but DOOMGuy can tank like 8 to 10 at times

I have pistols bound to "9" because I never have to use them. There just simply isn't any reason to have them when you can just use the AR instead. I very rarely run out of ammo for any of the weapons, besides the mortar

ranger in general has weaker weapons and is much much slower than the two other characters
like dont get me wrong ranger is badass and all but he is not nearly as strong as doomguy

In most universes eldritch horrors are much more powerful then just demons.
But the route Doom seems to be taking with its demons now.
Maybe they will upgrade them a bit.
the toughest regular enemies in quake are not as strong as the toughest regular enemies in doom, and quake was designed to have less enemies than doom partially due to the whole polygons are more taxing on hardware than sprites things
i guess the shambler is pretty tough and maybe harder to fight than the barons
but doomguy also runs quite a bit faster than ranger and generally doomguy fights barons by running around them
while in quake the easiest way to avoid shamblers is to hide behind pillars
so that the lightning doesn't hit you
i'd say they're comparable in terms of raw strength i mean you basically die in less than 3 sec if you're in melee range on any respectable difficulty
it just kinda seems like the doom marine is more equipped to fight things, the super shotgun in doom looks and sounds a lot more powerful than the one in quake and the doom marine is already a lot faster than the quake dude
i mean the shotgun in quake is basically a pistol
in doom the shotgun maintains relevancy by being like more accurate and still doing good damage to things even late in the game
i mean it's literally in quake's design documents or whatever that quake was intended to be a slower paced more atmospheric game because the polygons made it hard to make a game at the speed and pure action that is doom
stuff like longer hallways to accommodate for the player's slower running speed compared to doom, and once again, fewer enemies and weaker weapons so that you don't have a negative framerate on the hardware of the time
it's also probably worth mentioning that we're comparing 90s FPS heroes to a 2019 FPS hero made to mimic a 90s fps hero
i mean yeah the game (dusk) looks and feels like a 90s game but the way it runs and how levels are large scale with like mountains and hills and shit and trees and you can bunny hop at 2000 mph isn't really what would be expected of a 90s game, in quake it's kinda like square rooms with square staircases. and the whole "picking up objects and throwing them" thing is kinda like out of the question for a game like quake because lol physics
so some of the duskdude's power comes from just like
being a 2019 game

like there's a level in episode 3 where you can flip the entire level in 4 directions and physics props react so it's not like they just swap in a new room like it's majora's mask in the stone tower, they actually take the whole ass level and just fwoosh with no dip in framerate, trying to do that on 90s hardware that met the requirements to run quake would be a fire hazard
so yeah i mean if you had the mortar that could shoot out 6 quadrillion explosions at once while you bhop at 6000 mph and theres all of these particle effects and you can do flips and shit at 2000 fps then he would probably be stronger than just the doomguy whos scope is limited by the pixels and not being able to do as complex manuevers

almost every level and fight/exploration scenario in the game has multiple solutions that you can take that accomodate for lots of playstyles
like anyone can run in with the shotguns and assault rifles and shoot people
but there's more cautious players that are rewarded for being cautious because if they use their brain and figure "hmm maybe enemies will spawn from this wall" they can crossbow the wall and kill the enemies before they're even supposed to appear
which rewards players that prefer to think over players that prefer to shoot shit as much as they can
and the cigar is just a genius design
since health pickups are technically limited it's possible to literally run out of health in a level which means that a way to get health back as long as you're patient with no side effects is really cool in and of itself but THAT'S NOT WHY IT'S COOL
stuff like the crossbow being able to shoot through walls can remind crafty players of things like counter strike or like insurgency where your bullets go through walls so clever players that can predict enemy movements will be familiar with the concept of "i can shove a bullet through this wall and it will HURT THE THING ON THE OTHER SIDE"
and the cigar is reminiscent of the regenerating health thing that a lot of fps games have
the cigar is just like that thing in call of duty where like your screen goes gray and then when u wait 15 seconds you go back to full health again but it fits with the theme of the game and that's why its perfect
any first person shooter game you've ever played in your life

i was playing for like 100% completion on duskmare and then like i remembered that a bunch of wizards spawn behind you in the cutty mine
and i was like "hey since it's one hit kills i'll just die if i take this fight so I HAVE AN IDEA"
and i knew because of like demoman from tf2 and shit that if i put down a grenade that's on a timer i can essentially stickytrap things (once again the whole any fps game can be applied to dusk's singleplayer theory)

the wizards spawned and the ones that spawned inside the grenade instagibbed and then the grenade exploded

and it really made me think about just how well designed the game is
the game rewarded me indirectly for planning a fight ahead and putting a grenade before i walked into the spawn flag

because it caused the player to back up as soon as a fight triggered rather than walk forward
in doom 2016 the enemies kinda hold their ground more so the player has to walk at them
it feels like with the arsenal of weapons and bunny hopping and shit, the intent was to make the game to be played aggressively
but it achieves the opposite with almost every enemy in the game making a b line for the player
but if it wasn't the intent and the player is supposed to back up from every fight that's fine too

tldr in the case of wendigos, it's cool that they walk at the player and make the player back up. because the wendigos are supposed to be imposing and scary. they have high health. they're fast. they do a lot of damage. it makes sense to backpedal away from them
in the case of rats it's not cool that they make a b line for you because that means a player has to retreat, as in "back away from the threat or accept defeat" from the weakest enemy in the game and i do not find that fun
other than that most of the enemies are pretty fun to fight

i'm keeping all of my notes about the game in a .txt document, it's fun to figure out how much health all the enemy has by multiplying the amount of pistol shots it takes to kill something by 25
so not using it would be even more cumbersome then using it

Once you get how it works down it's easy to avoid accidentally using the slide, although I do recall accidentally sliding around at first.
But yeah there's a lot of situations where you can voop into a small area or under a projectile
tbh i never bothered to learn how not to accidentally slide
because it never got me hurt or anything
i've never really tried going under a projectile but dusk is such a buttery smooth game with such good hitboxes i would imagine it would work very well
It's been improved but my issue with Dusk's movement would have to be the rolling after landing happening when I'm clearly landing on my feet.
the only situation i can think of where i used sliding for anything other then going into a vent slightly faster while exploring was on e2m4
dude every time i jump down into something i have to swan dive + dive roll
