Game was great and got better every episode. I normally get bored with single player games but not with this one. Incredible work.

With all respect to Doom 2016, it's a top tier game, it didn't really scratch that classic 90's shooter itch like I was hoping. It's level and enemy design were pretty modern, less focussed than classic stuff. It's RPG elements discouraged weapon roles and switching and the game kinda drowned you in ammo, armour and health at all times. Dusk did what ID couldn't for me, which is pretty impressive. It's a much more pure, challenging action/exploration shooter for me.

I agree, yeah. Doom 2016 is definitely a perfect compromise to sell the general public on classic shooter design. I think it's incredibly well put together and captures it's target audience really well. I just think it falls short in a few regards. It also kinda wastes Mick Gordon's score by playing it aimlessly over everything IMO.

The score is incredible. The problem is that it's not associated with anything. BFG Division should have etched some scene in Doom 2016 into your brain, but it probably hasn't. It doesn't accompany some iconic fight in that game or anything, it just plays when the algorithm tells it to.

Compare that to how Dusk handles Andrew Hulshult's work in The Unseen, where that incredible explosion of metal is forever associated with that badass ladder climb and shootout upstairs.

Dusk makes great use of it's OST where in my opinion, Doom 2016 kind of wastes it. Or at least the potential it could have had.

Depending on the room, those guys might be the toughest bad guys in the game. All the monsters were traslated from the OG formula to 2016's formula perfectly. The only remake I don't think is objectively perfect is the Cyberdemon. He looks dumb and his fight is dumb. Not unfun, just dumb.

Also I think that the AI in Dusk is intentionally restricted. So they can serve a very specific role in a map or gunfight. Doom 2016 can't have a row of imps on a catwalk above shooting fireballs at you because their AI is too complex. They'll path their way to you or just jump off the catwalk entirely. In OG Doom you can. They can be placed in a map more or less entirely knowing what they'll do.

Fights in games with loose map and enemy designs don't often feel as focussed and flowing as ones that are more deliberate.

So, any information on Linux release? Waited for the game quite a bit, and got gifted it to me by a friend for a holiday season, but my PC craps the bed for some reason when it comes to Windows gaming, and trying to run the thing via Steam also makes the game crap itself too.

My problem with e3m3 was the watah and the small fish monsters

its definitely not the most obvious route of completion but you can complete the level without raising the water

if you xbow out of the well you can just continue to the exit without it raised, and when you get to the final tunnel its conveniently filled with water for you to swim up it :)

Switch has Unity support out of the box though, so it shouldn't be that hard (well, relatively to how hard it was to port games to consoles before)

gyro aiming takes some time to get used to, but it really compliments playing shooters on a gamepad, allowing to compensate for lack of precise movement when you aim with sticks
