Though that could be said about a lot of award ceremonies.

I mean there's a story to be sold here as well. The indie underdog fulfilling his teenage dream to make a badass FPS inspired by the great classics and reinventing a genre that was believed to be a dead horse beaten once in a while.
I fully agree with the dynamics behind how awards are decided upon though. Just saying it would make a cool story to justify an unconventional choice.
