I only purchase games with support for all three (including Windows) but if support isn't too far away I could make an exception. We're not ready to begin public testing on linux yet as support for it is scheduled to be a post release thing. Ourr main goal right now is to get the game as polished as possible on windows

What is up with difficulty in this game anyway? Just scales damage and fast monsters on CM right? I'm assuming it doesn't affect spawns because you can change it mid-level.

Having Cero Miedo spawn extra monsters, or a toggled mode like Intruder that spawns extra monsters would be nice. Even on CM with Intruder Mode and self-imposed stuff like no soap, or no riveter... DUSK never demands enough of me to slip into a flow state like I have to on balls-hard Quake or Doom maps. DUSK never stops being fun but it doesn't really make my butt sweat nawmsayin?

Eh... that's more annoying than challenging. It's a fun gimmick but it IS a gimmick difficulty. Doesn't really replace challenge through encounter design.

Episode 3 is just the monsters actually pouring out of the screen and killing everyone

Keep in mind guys that a lot of you on here are what could be considered top tier players for these sort of games, compared to the majority. We feel Ep2 difficulty is a good max level, so as not to alienate players who maybe aren't as skilled or used to these sort of games
Duskmare exists for people who want a big challenge

We did cut some ammo in Ep1 however, if anyone's played it recently
It's worth remembering that most casual retro FPS players I've seen try Build Engine games for the first time in years (or first time period) end up absolutely hating them and accusing them of not having aged well

and ultimately, we also hope that mod/mapping support will mean many different Dusk experiences for many different types of people. In this case, I have no doubt there will be lots of hard as balls user maps to choose from :)

to clarify, are these difficulty issues about just ep1, or ep2 as well? Because we kinda felt that ep2 cm was about as hard as anyone would want pre-Duskmare
for me ep2 is just fine, but still needs a bit ammo cut too IMO
@awesreek#4653 Episode 2 is still too easy. But to be fair... I'm comparing the difficulty to mods and wads like Arcane Dimensions and Ancient Aliens. Those are maps made by the community for a community of people who are extremely familiar with Quake and DOOM and have been playing incrementally harder and harder level sets for like 20 years sooo... :p
Duskmare ep2 is pretty fun and very do-able
@thorn trout I don't consider myself to be that great at FPS really. I play Quake mods on Hard and DOOM mods on UV... DUSK Ep. 2 on CM/Intruder never really put the squeeze on me tbh. It's an enjoyable difficulty and FEELS incredible to play of course... but it's a pretty casual playthrough.
lets all wait for Sergeant Mark IV to see if he makes brutal dusk

that's the thing though, if you're playing Quake on hard and Doom mods on UV, you're on a much higher skill level for these sort of experiences than "normal gamers"

I usually play most fps games on hard but Dusk ep2 on CM still gave me a kick in the balls
@mild chasm I suspect the biggest divide is between people who adopt a bunnyhop-heavy playstyle and those who don't. Bunnyhopping makes things VERY difficult to balance around
I mean, I personally tested on I Can Take It
not CM
whereas ep1 I tested on cm
Watching Twitch streams makes me more understanding about CM difficulty. :p People are REALLY bad at avoiding damage. And I don't bunny hop a lot. Almost never during combat. I bunny hop when traversing the level.

It's just that there's so much crap attacking you at once it requires a lot more finesse to dodge than most people can pull off

I'm incredibly aggressive with my play meaning I almost always need speed when I'm in encounters so I can quickly evade at close range. That and bunnyhopping is addictively fun.

single Dusk pistol is about as bad, but dual pistols are pretty effective against certain enemies or in certain situations

I can use the pistol on UV in doom 1 and 2, evilution and TNT rather comfortably while in Dusk it's just like spray and pray with little results

Sometimes a lopsided fight can make for a memorable experience. I remember specific fights I had in "unfair" DOOM and Quake maps, fights where my keyboard and mouse dissolve into my hands. :p DUSK never pushes me into that flow-state... I remember DUSK as an enjoyable whole but nothing really sticks out as "that one fight I can't believe I beat"... But I also completely understand why a commercial product shouldn't be as difficult as notorious community maps.

Sam is the type of game where a minigun is basically just enough to get you by rather than a "ohoho" empowerment moment

@exotic ibex yeah I haven't fully pulled the stops out on any of the encounters. Might happen in ep3 but also I do want to avoid regular arenas like that in the base game. Dusk is after all supposed to be a 90s FPS, focused on level exploration and flow, not an arena shooter

The desert eagle was pretty decent but the lack of dualies kind of put the problem into reverse where the lack of firepower kinda cancelled out the reload speed

Although I think the trend here is that I do better with individual handguns meanwhile everyone else prefers dualies since I actually liked the singular Colt better than the dualies
in TNE the handguns are never really replaced
they're arguably the best weapons in the game.

Here's my problemo with Serious Sam weapon's: The automatic ones. In TFE and TSE you get the tommy gun then get the minigun which takes the same ammo, so the tommy is outclassed by the minigun and no longer needed except for some longer ranged fights (which TSE fixed by adding the sniper). So you technically HAVE three automatic weapons (tommy, mini, and laser) but using the tommy is pretty much gimping yourself in later levels. BFE looks like it fixes this by making the assault rifle take different ammo than the minigun. Good stuff, right? EXCEPT that the LASER gun is a SECRET weapon with SECRET ammo meaning you still only have TWO automatic weapons that are viable because most of the time you probably are trying to save up ammo for the laser gun.

well the tommygun/minigun thing isnt really that big of a deal. the tommygun will help you save ammo for poping rockets, reptiloid fireballs, the beheaded. however your complaint about BFE with the laser i agree

and compile it as a .bsp
using one of the many bsp compilers available

dusks scripting system will be as robust as the doom tools available, so it is totally possible to have similar mods

same, I think it would be great if Dusk's modding communie was kind of a retelling of the 90s were a shit ton of IPs were born due to a few guys.
i imagine the fact that quake is just more difficult than doom to mod is a big reason it ended that way
