I don't so much have a problem with the modern fps genre varient, it may not always be done well but there is nothing really inherently wrong with it as a base. However, I find them to be usually dull and irritating. My biggest deterrants from half life is I have no interest in the story and I hate hitscan.

right, there are different types of "hitscan combat." Oldschool was more like "be really speedy about line of sight exploitation" as opposed to now where it's "soak up a bunch of damage until it's time to not soak up a bunch of damage"

Yeah. I have to say I've been impressed. In a way it feels like a really good 2600 game (Stay with me on this) in that it really uses the built in limitations to great benefit. Doing things that one might think even possible within those limitations
