it does for sure, but by a relatively marginal amount
if low spec mode in it's current state was turned into more of a toaster mode it'd really kick up the fps
mainly with particle effects, everything else shouldn't be too much of an issue

well we discovered it's not doing exactly what it's supposed to so there will be a patch soon that fixes that, which will hopefully help somewhat.

does the framerate tend to dip when you're firing or in specific areas of a map?
not when i'm firing, that's fine, just when it's an open area with lots of lighting and when i'm indoors in a house and there's a bunch of smog effects
lamp lights (idk if they're using vertex lighting) are a ok where as some candles that give off a red light in caves can affect it worse
almost all the lights in Dusk are baked so they should have 0 effect on the framerate
in that case it could be the effects inside the caves and indoor areas then
environmental smoke should be disabled in low spec mode. Are you seeing it anyway?

a lot of smoke comes from bullet impacts so firing repeatedly can lower fps
when i booted the game, i had low spec mode enabled but with the particle effects still showing
when i re enabled it they disabled the effects

and firing turned out to pretty gnarly, i thought it wasn't an issue
i shot at an enemy with the assault rifle and circle strafed him closely and it tanked my fps
and if i go close to a wall where lots of impacts just were the smoke will smother fps
yeah those effects should also be turning off in low spec mode. Pastch will fix that soon

Yeah, some older games like Blood had secrets which were so well hidden that the developers didn't make them count towards the secret tally since it'd be unfair for people trying to get 100%

I think having an enemy that you absolutely fucking hate is a great thing. Quake had Shamblers, Doom 2 had Pain Elementals, etc. That feeling of "On not these fucking guys" makes it sweeter to blow them away.
Maybe the ooze is a better parallel in Quake than Shamblers, but you get my meaning.
Archviles were that enemy for Doom, not Pain Elementals
Pain Elementals were just slightly annoying
Archviles and Revanents are more along the lines of being properly dreaded

They travel at breakneck speeds and will do 100 health in a split second
I love how they're intentionally designed to get all in your shit and so that they can ALSO be used as a bomb against enemies but they are like playing hot potato with a live grenade.

That room is actually rather easy if you take the first gas can with you down the hole
You throw that at the first couple and then before you step onto the AR which is the trigger point for the rest of them, you grab the gas can out of one of the crypt holes
I think there's a third one in there you can use if a few too many survive as well

@mild chasm there's also a flame barrel in the room right before the rats, so you can set them all on fire if you want
I've only made the mistake of using the fire barrel once
I usually just leave that bottom plank on the door there so they can't get through
Then I used the barrel and the fire broke it

So as I'm french, I'm using a french keyboard so my computer is set to french keyboard basically.
But when I want to grow up or reduce Dusk display with "=" or ")" it only works with "=" key, and my HUD just vanished and I can't get it back with ")" key.
Thing is : it works perfectly well when I set my system keyboard to "ENG".
I think people arleady complain about the time it takes to Quick Save/Quick Load in the game, but I also found it too slow and it sort of breaks the game fluidity.
are you playing a very old build of dusk? that save thing was fixed ages ago

if you need to retriieve your ui, theres a parameter in dusk.ini called uitoggle you can use as a temporary fix

the default bound keys for the UI are + and - btw, im not sure why itd be different on the french keyboard, but im certainly gonna find out!

I just played Doom, Quake, and old school shoot, where it's instant. But it just that I press Quick Save and I feel like that everything is stucked (not the game) for half a second or so and it breaks the overall fluidity of the game, and makes me avoid Quick Saving.
it should be well under half a second, maybe .25 seconds
And it's not a "bug" thing, but you can't spam quick load button, you have to wait a little before quick loading again.

It saves fast but when you do you are stuck for a little amount of time and I believe it kinda breaks the fluidity of the game. Certainly to fix the teleport by saving bug. ^^

So now my God damn cursor got frozen in the middle of my screen and I had like 2 steam pages pop up over Dusk. I had to just reset my computer twice. All I want to do is play this game for like 10 minutes.
Can Dusk do localized fog? Like making a large invisible brush and setting the area inside it to be foggy while keeping areas outside of the brush normal?
Unity has to do localized fog as a material.
you would have some sort of trigger to tell the global fog settings to apply when you enter the areas you want

Hmmm, I'll probably end up going with a trigger since that seems to be the least headache-inducing
id probably do a combo of a fog trigger, and a particle system
that way you can subtly roll in the global fog but keep the fog visual externally
but yeah the fog trigger is more "authentic" to the period
a 90's era fps would never have a mesh, volumetric, or particle fog
too perfomance heavy
I'll probably end up experimenting with my options when I can, sounds like I'll be able to do whatever I want regarding fog though

you could probably manually edit a save by hand to dupe scarecrows
if that feels better
