The purpose for the hub in Q1 seemed to be to justify the abrupt unexplained shift in art style between the episodes.
If Dusk is set in a non-alternate dimension, there wouldn't be much need for it, right? You go from a place to another, phsyically adjacent place between levels, as far as I can tell.

Guys I tried to find out at what time each levels took place but I ended up with the logical conclusion that e1m5 would take 2:25 hours to beat, e1m6 2 hours, e1m7 5 hours and e1m8 3 hours.

I liked how simple quakes was, just straight up difficulty selection follow by episode, nothing too intricate. but if you have ever seen Natural Selection its a multiplayer game where you join the server into a starting hub
and then you go through different doorways/paths to choose your team
and each map had its own room like this, called the ready room
