Anyway, I just saw the trailer for this game about an hour ago. It looks... promising.
Especially the first level in the pre-pre-pre alpha. The level design looks really good.
The weapons are pretty cool
After reading the steam reviews for the Rise of the Triad game, and how they mentioned longstanding unfixed bugs, I'm a little bit less optimistic about this game.
I don't want to get my hopes up too much.
So much about this game, and a bunch of other things I've come across has me really excited.

But, I'm also seeing a number of potentially bad red flags.
Interceptor Entertainment is now defunkt and the lone dev of DUSK has nothing to do with that studio

the game does need heavy patching and i think pixel titans learned to actually beta test their games
I mean, they kept acting like it was a 1996 style shooter at the core, but it was the opposite of Quake-meets-rogue.
It was Rogue-with-some-Quake
They basically leaned heavily on the Quake nostalgia bit.
You can't quake first then rogue second. Balancing would be a mess and it would be too easy

ALl they'd have to do would be to like make health more plentiful so speed is a more valid strategy than backing up and funnelling everything into a line in a small corridor

Please note that this function is very slow. It is not recommended to use this function every frame. In most cases you can use the singleton pattern instead.

I initially thought it was the explosion radius calculation doing that

it hasnt frozen for me while doing that, even with haste
On a powerful computer it won't
it doesn't do it on my desktop PC, but on my laptop it freezes entirely

@thorn trout some people have pointed out that Dusk's weapon viewmodels seem super low-poly, and looking at them again I think they're right. I dunno if they're similar to the polycounts of the guns in Quake but for some reason they at least look lower poly

they could probably do with a slight polycount raise but I dunno, maybe even a texture tweak could improve it
@prisma halo They're pretty similar to the polycount of the ones in Quake. The difference, to be frank, is that QUake's texture/model artists were a lot better than I am

I think the weapons and enemies look fine my problem is more the environments.
There's something about the way the textures look that just makes it all feel.... off but i can't put m finger on it.

Realistically if everyone who has a key got EP1 without it exceeding expectations you could run into serious problems.
You don't want to kill peoples' expectations and hopes before the game is even out.
There's nothing wrong with taking your time to insure the project is as best as it can possibly be.
id rather get a polished build of E1 than a broken build considering the likelyhood of that build getting patches is low.
You know what happened with Phil Fish, he got to show his game to the public and the first person that came found a bug and he had to restart the whole thing

Don't forget it isn't just EP1, it's GUI stuff, weapon sounds, quality-of-life improvements, etc.
but more glitches = better speedrun times :^)

You can do a beta testing for as long as you want, but until you actually get actual thousands of people playing it in such different ways, there's nothing set
