I'm recognizably cynical, but I've found that people generally don't like to do work, but like to take credit for completion.

For early-stage initiatives (like organizing events, building community, or leading projects), the motivator kind of takes the role of a martyr. You gotta dump in a whole fuckton of unrecognized labour, which others will enjoy more than yourself.

It's once things become stable/institutionalized that you might see eager young(er) folks bring their own efforts & ideas.

My takeaway is to pick your goals carefully because the organizer will likely be walking them alone for an indeterminately long while

I guess a nicer way of phrasing it would be that people don't like to be delegated work, but are often more receptive to lightening someone else's burden if they support the end goal
