As someone who identifies as crikey-core and with "90% of the shitposters on here. I hate Aussies so god damn much.", I say that it is weird to be appreciated.
Australian culture is extremely degenerative, and appreciating us is a weird thing to do.
I'm pretty sure there are no Australian restaurants. Australian BBQ is pathetic and we are a society with extremely high levels of social isolation and addiction.
That's the only strong similarity we have with Japan. We don't deserve the praise.
Some may enjoy the appreciative tone but our overall response will be derision.

Our cost of living has gone up much faster than wages and gdp.
So quality of life definitely isn't reflected by the GDP figure.
And yeah, it's a highly unsustainable economy.
