So I paid for a server so my friends and I can play but when everyone got off the server and I came back it said the server was offline, does that mean I have to be on or active in order for my server to be on or can my friends join my server that they are whitelisted in at anytime??

Any server without the 24/7 plan option will close if no players are online for 5 minutes

Your friends can start the server at any time as Openmindedness said by just doing /join (servername)

Connecting via the minehut.gg IP will just send them to the lobby if the server isn't online
they have to use /join to start it
