im trying to let people get a rank when they join for the first time

on first join:
trigger: execute console command "lp user %player% parent set default"

you dont need a trigger

thats only for commands

[hollow escarp]

default is already set when they first join

[sudden shoal]

(just so you know, LuckPerms automatically assigns the default rank to users that joined for the first time)
