What are you expecting it to add? Maybe explain what you've tried, what you're expecting to happen and what's actually happening.

(assumming .gitignore itself made properly)

That could also just be visual bug, happens in vscode sometimes.
Or could also be git cache.

As for Vscode issue - reload might help.
For cache - search how to clean it, I might say something dumb, cause I have no idea, just copied something when I had this issue and it worked.
