Error code 9001 0998 indicates a network connection issue, usually meaning your Switch is struggling to connect to Nintendo's servers after your region change.

Since you just switched to a US account, your console needs to re-authenticate with the American eShop servers. Follow these steps to fix it:

  1. Restart Your Console
Perform a full power cycle rather than just putting it in Sleep Mode. Hold the Power Button for 3 seconds, select Power Options, and then choose Restart.

  2. Change Your DNS Settings
Often, local ISPs in unsupported regions have trouble routing to the US eShop. Manually setting a public DNS like Google's can bypass this:
Go to System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
Select your Wi-Fi network and choose Change Settings.
Select DNS Settings and switch it to Manual.
Set Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

  3. Clear System Cache
If the error persists, there may be "stuck" data from your old region:
Go to System Settings > System > Formatting Options > Clear Cache.
Select the user account you are using and confirm.
  4. Verify Account Status
Ensure your change was fully saved on the Nintendo Account Website. If you had any remaining eShop balance on your original account, Nintendo may block the region switch until the balance is zero.

If these steps don't work, try connecting your Switch to a mobile hotspot to rule out your home router being the issue.
Are you seeing this error when trying to open the eShop or specifically when clicking the "Deregister" button for your primary console?
