How do I opt out of the virtual game card so I can use games digitally like how I used to before? I tried doing the "online license settings" and it didn't work for me at all

You can't opt out of virtual game cards. Enabling online license settings simply allows your other consoles to play games without loading the virtual game cards with an internet connection, just like a secondary console did before. It allows you to do essentially the same thing you could do before

That's so fucking ass

What do you mean exactly?

#

What were you doing before?

Prior to the virtual game card software update, you could just set a secondary nintendo account as primary in nintendo e-shop to have access to the person's online library of games

#

So I could for example, play pokemon violet game shared from my friends account by just logging into his switch account on my own and doing that

#

Is it no longer possible to do that?

modern swallow
#

You were using his account?

knotty drift
#

No, I was using my own it's just logging into his account would give access to his games

modern swallow
#

Ah ok

#

So it's still possible in a specific way

knotty drift
#

Yeah, cuz I did that online license thing and it still doesn't work for some reason

Basically there is no primary and secondary console anymore, the console that has the virtual loaded will act as the primary console for that game

#

To play your friend's game with your account on your console, you need to load the game's virtual game card on your console

#

And then he can still play the game on his console via online license if he enables it

#

But you have to link both consoles locally at least once first before you can move games remotely.

I won’t be going to see him until next month, and luckily that’s the case cuz I usually only go over to his place like once a year

#

But for people who are too far or don’t travel to see their friends often that means it’s not possible for them to game share anymore right?

modern swallow
#

Yeah that's a bummer. But once you do that, if he enables the online license, you can go back to doing the same as before like nothing happened, just as long as you remember to move the card of the game you want to play

#

The cool thing is that you can move cards between both consoles whenever you want, so if he's going on a trip where he has no internet connection and wants to play one of his games he can retrieve the card from your console beforehand and still get to play that game without having to go through the hassle of changing primary console

Yeah. Thankfully you only have to meet once though

Ordinarily that wouldn’t be an issue but maybe Nintendo forgot what covid incentivized and how much more popular online gaming has become
