Hi all, I need recommendation for RPG especially one with good story. I mostly play traditional RPG, but I've been thinking this list below:

Fire emblem 3 houses - I never play tactical RPG, but if I want to try one, is this a good game to start? It got good review on story side
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - I never played xenoblade 1 & 2, will it bother me if I play XC 3 without playing 1 & 2?
Dragon Quest 11s - I never play DQ but seems the games is good
Octopath Traveler - I played OT2, will there be disappointment due to high expectation because I play OT2 before?
Shin Megami Tensei 5 - I only ever play Persona 5 Royal and it seems it is entirely different
13 Sentinels - I never play this kind of game but it seems it got good review everywhere

I intend to get Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars on physical copy, so I may need to wait for these 2.

The game that I alrrady played and finished are:
Bravely Default 2
Nier Automata
Octopath Traveler 2
Persona 5 Royal
ToTK & BoTW
Astral Chain

I intend to get 3 or 4 games for now and I prefer RPG that has strong / good story aspect with long playtime hours, but I am open to recommendations. Thank you in advance.

Xenoblade has some of the best storyteling out of any game i have played. And no it doesn't matter what order you play them in but i recommend to play the 1st one 1st just because the battle system is different from 2 and 3.

  • FE3H: Highest playtime in theory, with 4 major story routes (requires 4 playthroughs to see everything) plus DLC story. It got calendar-based managing elements if P5R was still not enough for you. Story splits and goes hard around the second half of each route (~ 30 hours in), the downside being you cannot skip the first half in subsequent playthroughs. There is permadeath but you can disable it.
  • Xenoblade: If you have the time and energy to play all 3 it will likely be your best JRPG experience in 2024. If you don't, XC3 story alone is still pretty good. The DLC absolutely requires having played 1+2, so maybe leave it for later.
  • DQ11s: I never got far in this one, but if you're new to the genre and already got used to modern JRPGs, the music and combat of this one will bore you out before the story reaches the good part.
  • Octopath: I haven't played either one so can't comment.
  • SMT 5: The only similarities between this and P5R are the demons (or shadows) and the skill names. Which likely were not the reasons you enjoyed P5R in the first place.
  • 13 Sentinels: 80% VN and 20% RTS combat. Heavy sci-fi settings with exceptional combat music to match. Story has around 11 playable characters that you can read in different orders, but unlike Octopath they are interconnected and gradually reveal parts of one grand narrative. Expect massive revelation moments up until the final battle. It only took me 30 hours for the ending, but looking back it was my best 30 hours in 2022.

Octopath 2 had loads of QOL updates which make game play much quicker, easier and more streamlined. The first one is still very very good. The stories are amazing and the game play is still good, it's just not got some of the nice things the second one has.

Worth playing for the stories!
