When a game freezes is it due to hardware or the game?

I was playing Monster Hunter Rise today after charging my Switch I hopped on, turned on the wifi there and created a lobby and did one solo quest first to warm up

Then my screen froze all of a sudden so I restarted my Switch and when I reopened the game it froze again on the Switch loading thing so I had to restart a second time, it worked after it and I was being too careful and just idled around waiting to see if it would freeze again

Eventually after 10 mins and nothing happened I gave up playing and turned it off

So is that because of MHR or was it a hardware issue? I've only had this for roughly 2 months so I'm really worried why this happened and want to know what I could do to fix this or if I need to have it replaced

There's no other weird behaviors or similar issues on other games?

I havent tested yet since MHR is all I ever play

I see. Then for now I can tell you that this type of occurence is not new to the game, I played it, too.

For me it has done this exact thing twice since release.

It's a software bug, I believe.

Keep playing like normal and take note of any strange behavior or if it crashed like this again.

When that happened, you can come here to ask again.

Would reinstalling the game make a difference or is that just how it is?
