#17.0 update black screen HELP
44 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
There was a lot of reports on problems relating to recent firmware update. But the symptoms you listed here are new 0_o
Can you tell your sibling to remove the microSD card and test if the issues are still there?
Will ask them to try
I think you should read this thread: https://discord.com/channels/238080556708003851/1161770689565573210
They haven't tried the sd thing yet so hopefully it's not bricked
They can still get to home screen but everything just black screen when start on game then shut off slow
Try to delete the game files and go into it again
i dont know if that game has cloud saves or not
but most likely the saves will be gone too if archived uninstall doesnt work
take out the gamecard or is it digital?
yep seems like my switch still works perfectly fine pokemon violet boots just fine
persona 5 royal too
kirby clash also works
id download the demo of that game but it would be too long and its not really the original game so it could play out differently
My dude...
You can literally refer them back to the microSD card thread
Let me do it anyway
I just took a bath
@tranquil birch In some reported cases, the firmware update didn't mess up the Switch's internal memory but it messed up the microSD card. Maybe that's the reason for your sibling's issue. And that's also why I asked you to test without the microSD card.
If testing without the microSD card worked without any problem then you will need to reformat the card properly

SWITCH'S DATA ALLOCATION
・ All data, including games' install data (the game + DLC + Update), screenshots, gameplay capture videos, users' settings & save data are initially stored on the Switch's internal memory.
・ From the moment a microSD card is put into the Switch, all future games' install data, screenshots, gameplay capture videos will be stored into that microSD card. This will be applied to any other subsequent microSD card put into the Switch.
・ Past games' install data, screenshots, gameplay capture videos will not be automatically moved over to the newly inserted microSD card and will stay in the Switch's internal memory or previous microSD card. You can manually move them in System Settings ⚙️ > Data Management.
※ Important: Users' settings and Save Data will always remain on the Switch's internal memory and cannot be moved over to the microSD card.
・ In order to move data from one microSD card to another, type !tag sdt for a guide.
MICROSD CARD FORMAT AND TEST
§ To fix Error Code: 2016-0641, data corruption issue. For fixing microSD card not recognized, broken microSD card reader please use tag sdr
※ Note: microSD card only stores screenshots/video capture and games' install data. Save data is stored on the internal memory of the Switch.
■ How to properly format a microSD card to use on Switch console:
You will need a PC computer and a microSD card reader.
1. Use this software, SD Association's SD Memory Card Formatter (Windows/Mac software available.), and format the microSD card using Overwrite option. Mac/Windows software available.
2. Format your microSD card again using your computer's Quick format feature. exFAT and FAT32 filesystem is preferred.
3. Put the microSD card into your Switch console and use the built-in function to format the card one more time.

■ If you suspect your microSD card is broken or fake/counterfeit, you can test using these software:
- Windows: H2Test (Read/Write speed test)
- Mac: Black Magic Disk Speed Test or F3XSwift
- Android: SD Insight
And this one, in the case you want to recover the screenshot/video (Follow the last bullet point but with one card)
TRANSFER DATA ON MICROSD CARD
§ These are instructions on how to deal with data on microSD card, transferring them between different cards or between Switch consoles.
※ Note
● MicroSD card only contain screenshot/gameplay capture video and games' install data. Save data is stored on the Switch's internal memory and cannot be moved to microSD card.
● You can move data between the microSD card and the Switch's internal memory by going into System Setting ⚙️ > Data Management.
■ Transfer a microSD card to a different Switch
1. Make sure you have transferred the profiles that own games to the new Switch. Otherwise the console will not recognize the data. Type !tag save for more info.
2. Simply plug the old microSD card into the new Switch and check your content in System Setting ⚙️ > Data Management. Games' data and screenshot/gameplay capture should be present.
※ If it doesn't work, backup the data on your computer, format the card with the Switch, then put the data back on the card.
■ Transfer data between microSD card
You will need a device that can read and format microSD card. Either PC/MAC computer or smartphone/tablet.
1. Determine the File System of the old microSD card.
2. Format the new microSD card to the same File System.
3. Use the Switch to format the new microSD card one more time.
4. Copy and paste the files from the old microSD card over to the new one. Following the correct folder's location.
@pastel pewter I can explain the why later for this issue, but you gotta apply what you learned for your own needs as well as answering these cases.
Now, off to bed for me.
Good night
well im just glad my switch remained just fine
the microsd works, games dont crash or freeze and it doesnt get stuck on boot and i dont need recovery mode either
Stay in here for a while and you will get anxiety
Waitt maybe the same happend to me because i hadd a micro sd card in my nintendo switch
We've already gone through this before, common
Ok sorry i will sleep now
And i will just send it to someone to repair it and will psy 100 euro or something
shoo
its not your sd card
go away to sleep
let kiddy go to sleep too
and if each repair would be 100 euro it would have been better to buy a new switch already..
So idk how but they just launched a game and it worked so 🤷♂️
