You read it right. I have the OG Switch (HAC-001) and the newest update broke it. It does not get past the Nintendo logo.

I haven’t hacked or homebrewed my Switch.

It got bricked right after restarting.

Other people have updated and their Switch is somehow fine.

Help…

foggy smelt
#

Have you tried entering into recovery mode and fix it from there?

#

@zealous hill

#

Does the recovery mode open up at all?

zealous hill
#

Nope

#

It still stays on a black screen

#

should I try to send it to repair?

foggy smelt
#

I see..

#

Well

zealous hill
#

im from costa rica so i cant get the official support

foggy smelt
#

That issue also happened a few years ago

foggy smelt
#

From what ive read before..

#

The person drained the battery fully and it somehow booted after charging a little but it does not fix the issue

#

After charging it a little more it bricked again

#

So the person sent it back then to nintendo to repair it

#

I assume they had warranty

zealous hill
#

ill try to let it drain the battery by itself then

foggy smelt
#

They did not get their switch back but they got s new unit due to the lack of parts

#

Which means it was a corrupted part

#

You can try taking out the microsd and any cartridge inside the switch and try to get into boot mode again

#

If the problem still persists try to do the draining and charge it up for abit

#

If possible try to back up everything that you need

zealous hill
#

nah i dont really have anything worth saving there

#

all my games are on digital format

foggy smelt
#

I see..

#

Well

#

I wish you the best of luck

#

I dont think i updated my switch yet

#

I dont think i will till they give a normal update

#

Kind of scared to update now 😂

#

Let me see if its on 16 or 17

#

Its on 16

#

@zealous hill

#

I aint updating

#

Just a question

#

@zealous hill

#

Did you have any modifications on your switch

#

Huh

#

My switch updated with no issues at all

foggy smelt
#

Because if you did and then updated it well

#

Big mistake

#

Either way

#

Wait till someone who knows more about this to come

#

Eventually they will

zealous hill
foggy smelt
#

Well

#

I dont know what to tell you then

#

Mine is fine

#

If the draining battery doesnt work

#

Just send it off to repair

zealous hill
#

yeah there is a authorized nintendo support center in my country

#

there is only one lol

#

so ill send it there

foggy smelt
#

Hopefully your switch will get fixed 👍

#

Goodluck 🫡

#

Oh jesus

#

Sigh

#

@zealous hill What's the exact situation of your Switch?
I know you said "brick" but that's just a very generic term.

I'm also dealing with this issue as well

#

After the update, only boots to white Nintendo logo then turns off

First, do this:

ac

HOW TO RESET AC ADAPTER

If your console has issue with charging, no power or other power issue:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall sockets and other devices.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug the AC adapter back into the wall socket then back to the device you want to charge.

#

After that, do not connect the AC adapter back into the dock, connect it to the console directly.

#

And then, remove everything from your console: joycon, microSD card, game cart, etc...

#

Then do this

15s

METHOD TO FIX BOOT ISSUE

If you are experiencing boot issue, your Switch won't turn on, etc.. try this:

  • Make sure the Switch is plugged in directly to the AC adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • At exactly the 15th second, lift your finger briefly then press down once to turn the Switch on.
floral jacinth
#

Tell me if that worked or not, or there's any response on the screen

#

If not, let it sit there to charge for at least an hour then try the 15s trick again.

#

If that also didn't work, follow the steps below but stop at step 2

init

HOW TO INITIALIZE WITHOUT DELETING SAVE DATA

§ Initialization is a semi-format solution that will wipe all the data on your Switch, except for save data, screenshots, and your user account information, then restore the system software back to its original state. It will help eliminating software issues.

※ Note: This process will delete all games' install data and pictures/videos stored on your microSD card, since it will format your card . Your save data will be safe. You can backup or move the data around in System Setting ⚙️ > Data Management.
⚠︎ Exception: Animal Crossing: New Horizon's save data will be lost through this process. Please backup or transfer your ACNH's save data before attempting this.

1. Ensure the console is power off.

If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down.
2. With the console powered off, press and hold down the Volume up (+) and Volume down (-) buttons, then press the POWER Button to turn the system on.
Keep holding down the Volume buttons until the menu for Maintenance Mode appears.
---Stop here if you just want to access Maintenance/Recovery mode---

3. Once in Maintenance Mode, select Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data.

If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it to proceed.
4. Read through the information, then select Next > Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data.

Do not do Step 3, just do till step 2. Stop there and report back if it does something.

If it can turn on and get into recovery menu, just hold the power button to turn off the Switch then turn it back on again.

#

Awesome man I appreciate it, I'll try it soon and report back

floral jacinth
#

Good luck 👍

#

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this happened after a firmware update :\

dull lark
#

Haha thank you, I literally was about to play TOTK and opted to do the update instead lmaoo

dull lark
#

Hey, so after doing all the steps it hasn’t changed from the initial problem

#

Boots up the Nintendo logo for 2 seconds, then turns off

#

I’m not sure if I should leave it plugged in or try draining the battery

floral jacinth
#

Draining battery, although a possible solution, is not advisable when you still have other solutions to explored.

Given how quirky and prone to issue the Switch's battery is, draining it down may create even more problems.

dull lark
#

Okay no worries I set it to charge

#

How long should I leave it? I’m feeling pretty out of solutions at the moment

floral jacinth

#

Okay perfect thank you!

#

I am having the exact same problem... I tried everything that's said here but the situation hasn't changed. Has someone found a solution yet?

floral jacinth
fringe marten
#

Yes, and I tried charging for 1 hour with different cables, I also left it overnight in the dock trying to charge it but now that I woke up I get the same results again...

floral jacinth
#

and with the original AC adapter

fringe marten
#

Yes, I tried it yesterday but I had zero results

floral jacinth
#

and there's nothing connected to the Switch, microSD card, game cart, joycon, etc...?

fringe marten
#

I checked the switch and I saw I had forgotten to remove the microSD card. Should I repeat the same process now that I have assured that I removed everything? (Also, really thank you for helping and for your availability (: )

floral jacinth
# fringe marten I checked the switch and I saw I had forgotten to remove the microSD card. Shoul...

No problem.
We are actually trying to create a vacuum environment, with no intefering elements. Those things that you have to remove were known to cause issue on previous cases.
The microSD card for example, can be corrupted due to the firmware update.

I suggested do a 15s boot up test now with the microSD card out.
If that didn't work, try the combination for recovery menu.
If that also didn't work, check beck on all of my previous comments, look at each steps and see which one you didn't do correctly.

#

And I have to warn everyone in this thread, last time this happened, there were several people who couldn't get it fixed like this at all, and have to send it back for repair.

fringe marten
#

I'll make sure to follow accurately every step now, thanks again (: .
Do you also know if I could lose my games' progress if I send it to repair or change switch? I have nintendo switch online and I heard that I could save them with a "backup", but I manually never did it. Is it automatic?

floral jacinth
fringe marten
#

Do you know if Pokemon Violet is one of them?

floral jacinth
#

Yeah, unfortunately, all Pokemon games do not have cloud save support.

#

When sending in for repair, you can ask the repair service to not wiping your data. But it's not a guaranteed, since some repair process may require them to wipe the data.

#

And eh, in this specific case, the chance they have to wipe is quite high.

fringe marten
#

Okay... thanks a lot, i will see if anything works now (:

floral jacinth
#

Good luck. Please update your situation later.

#

I'll ask around for some more info. But I bet it's similar to the last time this happened :\

fringe marten
#

1 hour later and the situation is still the same, now I'll wait for the customer support of my country to reply hopefully founding a way to not lose all my progress.. if I find a solution I'll write it here so if anyone has my same problem they can find the best way to solve it

floral jacinth
#

Urgh some other people found the cause and some solution but...

#

The cause is to do with internal memory. The firmware update did something wrong to the index files.

The solution will require you to repair this, but it requires 3rd party software and hacked Switch.

#

I have to bear the bad news here, but there's no way to fix it via a middle-man hacked Switch.

If your Switch cannot boot up after doing all the steps, then I suggest you guys contact Nintendo customer support and convince them to give you a free repair, since this is a problem their firmware caused. Be nice, polite and logical, it will help.

The chance for them to wipe your data is very high, but try to ask them to retain your save data anyway.
