Hi everyone, I've just bought a switch but haven't really played any games for a good few years since my DS days. I've done a lot of research but ultimately I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start when it comes to games I'd enjoy.

I used to enjoy Super Mario Bros, Harvest Moon and the Pokemon games, so I've got their versions on Switch on my radar but also don't know specifically which ones are the best.

I prefer story games or games with some sort of linear progression/objectives (Animal Crossing puts me off for that reason). I'm interested in story games, puzzle games and mystery games and I'm a big fantasy book reader. Ultimately I'm open to anything people think fit the bill but I'm not so keen on massively open ended games or anything that needs too much prior skill.

Extra points for mythology involvement!

Here’s what I would recommend.

  • Mario odyssey
  • Mario Wonder (releasing later this year)
  • Zelda botw and totk
  • Pokémon Arceus and Scarlet\Violet
  • Luigi’s Mansion 3
  • fire emblem three houses or engage
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • Persona 5 Royal
  • Harvestella since you like harvest moon. They are also releasing a new harvest moon game soon

Indie stuff:

  • Eastward - really good story and amazing graphics
  • hollow knight - very challenging platformer but 10/10 game
  • Omori - amazing story

I'd also add to the list:

  • Shovel Knight
  • Celeste
  • Stardew valley (if you are looking for a cozy/relaxing game).
  • Portal Companion Collection (amazing puzzle games).
  • Disco Elysium (amazing story, and with good mysteries, and since you mentioned you are a big fantasy book reader, you are gonna enjoy its narrative).
  • Return of the Obra Dinn (one of the best mystery games).
  • Captain toad (a good puzzle game).

Side note: if you are looking for pokemon games, just stick with Arceus, stay away from Scarlet/Violet. Or just get Cassette Beasts.

Yeah it is not an easy game for sure but it does build a good base that will help with other games like 3D controls movement and aim

It happened with me with rocket league, the only reason I got it on switch was because I didn't have a gaming PC yet
