#how do i get to hear my switch audio so that i can talk with my friends at the same time

I have this neat little trick, requires some setup, but it works brilliantly.
MERGE SWITCH AND PC'S AUDIO
§ You can merge your Switch's and PC's audio and output it into a single set of speakers or headphone. It can allow you to listen to games' audio while chatting on Discord.
• Instructions:
・ Use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect an audio output from your Switch to one of the Line-in ports on your PC.
・ Then setup (Windows): Sound settings > Recording tab > Select your Line-in port > Listen tab > Check "Listen to this device".
・ The audio output from your Switch can be the 3.5mm port on the Switch itself or from the 3.5mm port on your monitor/TV, which takes the audio from HDMI signal.
※ Note:
・ You may encounter ground loop noise. To fix this, connect a ground loop noise isolator.
・ If your TV/monitor has a 3.5mm audio output, you can also connect from there, as they take audio from HDMI. It may reduce static noise.
noise/). To fix this, connect a ground loop noise isolator.
・ Thanks to firmware 13.0, there is an alternative method by connecting your PC to the Switch via Bluetooth, then use an this software to direct the audio.
Read the tag above and try to do it yourself. If you run into any issue, let me know.
okay ill try
my english is not the best so i might have some issues
wait but does this work if i only have 1 headset?
yeah, it essentially will play the Switch audio through whatever speakers/headphones you have on your PC
along with your PC's audio
You just need a 3.5mm audio cable
this is a 3.5mm audio cable
looks good to me
okey thank you
you're welcome
sounds like a ground loop problem -- read the tag section about ground loop noise
yes i do have a 3.5mm thingy in the back of my monitor but i didnt really understand the instructions
what part didn't you understand?
i dont understand should the 3.5mm cable be connected to the switch with my monitor or to the pc
it says right there in the instructions: "Use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect an audio output from your Switch to one of the Line-in ports on your PC."
ok but where does the monitor 3.5mm jack come in this situation
it doesn't. the tv/monitor takes audio from the hdmi signal
if you use the 3.5mm jack on the monitor/tv, you use it as an output
I think you saying it like that gonna confuse him even more lol
Let me give you a chart
sorry im makint this hard for u guys
hold on
It's fine, don't worry about it
@obtuse prawn It's straight forward like this:
thank you ill try this
tbh im not sure if i connect the 3.5mm to the right port on my pc
because idk whats right and whats the wrong one
That's gonna be something you have to test and try.
Since there are several ports, and it differs from computer to computer. So it can be confusing. Normally, I say aim for the port with dark blue or black color.
What you should do is to plug it into one port, then open the Sound menu
Go to Recording tab
from recording tab i never fully understood what to choose
And try to see if any of the has a green bar that moves
oh then i suppose my switch has to be on
Yeah and you have to be on the HDMI channel of your monitor
You see, the 3.5mm audio port on your monitor is directly taken from the HDMI cable
But it will only output to that 3.5mm audio port when your monitor is displaying that HDMI signal
Double click on the audio input you suspect was the Line-in you just plug in
and then select this
Press Ok, then change your monitor to the HDMI channel of the Switch
And check if you can hear the computer's speaker outputting the audio from the Switch
Just muck around a bit, eventually you will find it
yeah it just most of these things doesent even have the bars that could even show a light
Ah it wouldn't show you a moving green light just yet
that's my bad
It would only have sound when you are on the HDMI signal on the monitor
so of course, right from viewing the PC side, you can only see the bar, but no moving volume green bar
im so confused about the hdmi singal XD
Eh let me try to explain it again
Your monitor takes HDMI from the Switch, yeah?
HDMI cable has audio as well as video
the 3.5mm audio port on the monitor is extracting that audio from HDMI
but it would only be "on" when the monitor is displaying that HDMI channel on the Switch
When the monitor is viewing your PC's signal, it will not output the sound from the Switch
btw does it matter if i dont have the nintendo hdmi cable which comes with the dock
Nope it doesn't matter
From the 3.5mm audio port on your monitor:
- Monitor displaying Switch = that port output sound.
- Monitor displaying your PC = that port has no sound.
are we talking about 2 diffrent monitors
No, just a singular one
Your monitor can change between displaying your PC or your Switch, it's like 2 TV channels, yeah?
Yeah you got that
when it's displaying HDMI then the audio port would have audio
if it's displaying DP from your PC, then the monitor will mute that audio port
i might just buy the isolator
am i supposed to hear some audio from the switch trough the buzzing? because i hear nothing else
@broken spear
You don't hear anything else beside the buzzing?
Hmm something is wrong
can you unplug the 3.5mm audio jack from the monitor, and then plug it into the Switch instead?
This time you can even test it when your monitor is displaying your PC screen
check if you can hear the sound from the Switch
Yeah because it's no longer dependent on the monitor
just hearing the buzzing
Take a look at the recording tab on Sound settings again
yeah you did something wrong with the config
Look at the recording tab while you do something to make noise on the Switch
see which one has a moving green bar
wellllll the problem is none of these things are showing green bar
They are just empty bar?
yeah
Test with a different port then
expect my mic and headphone one
i think i tried all of them but i can try again
maybe i dont have sound of switch
But normally you do, right?
take a pic of your PC's ports for me
ok they are in finish
Tbh, if you have someone in your family who knows computer stuffs, ask them to help
yeah the back of your PC
eh can you take one so I can read the letterings?
By normal standard, it's this one:
or the ones near it, top or left
hm okay
That means Line-in, right? o.o
exactly but it shows the redport on it
wait
idk why it always says no connection still
You are not in the Listen tab though
there aint no listen tab
well yea
You tried all the ports and none of them trigger this thing?
yes
Well, let's not dwell on that
When you test all the ports, which one gives you a reaction?
The one that gives you the buzzing noise
all of them
eh so all other ports can be used?
wut
That's what you said...
btw this is the thing that gives me the buzzing noise
i suspect this is the right one tho because i saw someone guides about this and they used it
Yeah this is the mic port, it's usable
The problem is it didn't work correctly 0_o
and eh what other guide?
on youtube there was guides how to get both sounds on the same time so i followed it
and didnt really make progress lol
ah same thing
Honestly, this might need some other work
But Idk if you can even do it
why?
If I tell you to go update your motherboard's soundcard driver, do you know how to do it?
Maybe, but we have to keep digging
You should also test if the audio is working correctly on your Switch
try plugging in the headphones onto the Switch's3.5mm audio port
yea it worked i already tested
or try to plug the headphones into the monitor's 3.5mm audio port while the monitor is displaying the Switch's HDMI output
No sound on which scenario?
oh i dont hear pc either
Nah it won't work on your PC
since monitor, strangely enough, doesn't output audio from DP
only works on HDMI
So the problem is with your PC
To update your motherboard's driver
you need to find out what's its model name
the brand who made it
and then you go to the maker's website to download the drivers
sometime it's more complex than that if the drivers site is no longer there, you need to find other places that have it ._.
awh
dont i see my pc specs from somewhere?
i know its a msi motherboard but dont remember the model
yeah, use this software: https://www.hwinfo.com/
Free Hardware Analysis, Monitoring and Reporting. In-depth Hardware Information, Real-Time System Monitoring, Reporting & more
portable or installer?
any is fine
ok so i opened the site selected download and i got these files
is it the setupchipset?
@broken spear
ooh
To be precise, for your motherboard soundcard
okey
would bios update do the work? because i cant find any motherboard soundcard updates
@broken spear
Unlikely. Bios update is not the same thing as drivers.
okey ill look more into it
soo many options
Realtek HD Audio Driver (Vista/7/8/8.1/10) 64-bit (Executable file) (252 MB)
maybe this
this the latest version too
Why?
A restart is to be expected when you install a new driver
It wants me to restart again
So restart again
Yup
nothing pops up anymore i guess its done?
@broken spear do i do the steps now again?
Now it shows it like this
now i cant hear anything??
nvm i just had to reinstall
idk what to do with this anymore maybe if u guys want to or can look up into this later
nvm im fine with the system i have my switch is on the other monitor and pc on other so i can hear discord and switch sound comes from monitor
sorry for the time waste
thanks tho
Have some patience. We will help you out — but we have to be awake :)
if u guys want to ofc but for now im fine with my system
