#My Switch Pro Controller's joystick has been squeaking when using it

A few days ago this started happening, whenever I use the left joystick it feels like it has a lot of friction
(sometimes it would even stay in place when I let go of it)
I tried blowing some compressed air into the joystick without taking the controller apart, but it didn't help.

So I took apart the controller, took the joystick caps off, and used a brush to try and clean it in the joystick box, didn't really help.
I think it needs some kind of lubricant like WD-40 or something, I have WD-40 but I am wondering if there is a special kind I need to use for specifically electronics, and would Isopropyl alcohol help? and if so would I need 70% or 91%?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

What it do to it?

rugged solar
#

it'll gunk it up and cause dirt to lodge inside even faster

Okay, is there something else I should use?

#

you can try isopropanol like you said but you may need to replace the entire joystick mechanism

umbral tundra
#

Dang, it's soldered to the motherboard right?

rugged solar
#

yes

umbral tundra
#

Okay, if I try isopropyl alcohol does it matter what percentage I use?

rugged solar
#

the higher the better

umbral tundra
#

If I use 70% would it damage it?

rugged solar
#

ideally for this sort of thing you can find 99%

#

70% is 30% water

umbral tundra
#

Ah

#

I'll look for 99%, should I just put some into the joystick box, or is there a specific place I need to put it

rugged solar
#

yeah just swab it into the joystick box

#

make sure you let it dry up completely before reassembling the controller

umbral tundra
#

Got it. Would putting a new joystick in be difficult? I have no experience with soldering.

rugged solar
#

it's not difficult if you know how to solder

#

but if you don't i'd recommend you practice on something cheap

umbral tundra
#

What would that be?

rugged solar
#

anything electronic that's destined for the rubbish bin

#

you may have better luck if you send it to someone for repair

Okay, I'll try to see if I have a repair shop near me. Thanks for all the help!
