It's highly unlikely you'll fry the switch. USB-C is USB-C. Just make sure to get an AC adapter with a U.S. plug (you can buy the appropriate adapter from nintendo.com for like $30)

there is no region-lock on the Switch. As far as I'm aware, you can change your Nintendo account's eshop region to U.S. and it will work fine.

There are some region-locked for contents, mostly you need to care about incompatible DLC/save data between different regional version and redeemable codes are all region-locked.
