Im assuming theres no important story in splatoon 1 & 2? Do i need to play them before 3?

For single player, yeah there's direct carryover and progression from 1 to 2 to Octo Expansion to 3, but that only matters as much as you care about single player. A majority of your playtime will be in multiplayer, in which 3 is the best, so I'd say skip to that
