#Dock stopped outputting signal after updating to 15.0.0?

My switch now only displays the green light, no signal on display. Sometimes it flickers on for a quick sec, then back to blank. Before updating this wasn't an issue. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I've tried:
Resetting the entire console (not restarting, but deleting all data and reinstalling the system firmware)
4 HDMI Cables
2 Monitors & 1 Projector
3 Different power outlets

The primary HDMI cable I tried this with was the official high-speed HDMI cable that came in the box, alongside the official AC adapter that also came in the box.

How old is this Switch? @upper pecan

upper pecan
#

around 2.5 years old

#

i got it around march 2020

subtle plank
#

When did this issue first appear?

upper pecan
#

a few days ago

#

pretty much from what i recall it stopped working around the time i got a pop-up to update the system software

subtle plank
#

When you said you "reinstalling the system firmware", I have to ask, is this a hacked Switch?

upper pecan
#

nope, it's a V2

#

there's no way to hack it afaik

subtle plank
#

||There is||
Anyway, you do a factory reset and update again?

upper pecan
#

I can try to reset it again, i'll get back here to inform on what will happen

subtle plank
#

Just answer me first.

upper pecan
#

I just reset it, came with 15.0.0 installed

#

no update was requested

subtle plank
#

There are 2 different "reset", you see. One is called initialize and the other is factory reset.

#

Yeah, you can't really re-install firmware. Once it's in there, it's done.

#

Anyway, have you ever tried the steps below?

🐵 MONKEY MAGIC METHOD 🐒

Important: Follow these steps in exact order

  1. Unplug all the cables (HDMI, AC Power Adapter) and remove the Switch from dock.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket.
  3. Turn off the TV/Monitor.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Connect your AC adapter cable to the dock.
  6. Connect your AC adapter to the wall outlet.
  7. Connect your HDMI cable to the dock.
  8. Connect your HDMI cable to the TV/Monitor.
  9. Dock your Switch.
  10. Turn on TV/Monitor.

#

k let me try doing this

subtle plank
#

Ping me with the result

#

Although I kinda doubt it can help, since you have tested on different TV/monitor, but let's see what it can do

upper pecan
#

@subtle plank yup, it sadly did not do anything. When trying to get it working earlier, it flickered on for a few seconds (like 15-20) then went back to not sending any signal (the dock was still flashing the green light, though)

subtle plank
#

And then if you have a solid HDMI connection, the LED will stay lit.

upper pecan
#

Yeah, it always did that

subtle plank
#

If it's not, it will start to blink/flash

upper pecan
#

but it does stay lit

subtle plank
#

So it's saying there is a HDMI connection

#

but for some reason it doesn't display

#

You don't happen to have a different Switch console or another dock to test, do you?

upper pecan
#

unfortunately no

#

i'll probably have to turn it in for repair

subtle plank
#

We still have something to try

#

although at this point, it sounds like a hardware issue

#

This is more of a test than a solution but...

#

Oh wait, you can't see the screen

#

So you can't change the settings ><

#

Welp, then we can't do further than this

#

I'll give you this repair guide though, it may help

HARDWARE REPAIR INFORMATION

Please click on the links below to read more about hardware repair options.

[👉 Nintendo Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
Nintendo offers their own repair service for free within warranty period and with cost when warranty has expired. Joycon's repair are often free, regardless of warranty. Their service is often more reliable, with original replacement parts, but is more expensive.

[👉 Independent Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
A local, independent repair service may offer faster return time, cheaper and doesn't need warranty nor official support. Although finding a good local repair service needs some effort.

[👉 DIY Repair](#986637761916317707 message)
Requires skills, tools and experience, but DIY repair is always an option.

#

Maybe you can also look into replacing that LCD, eh?

upper pecan
#

i mean it technically still works

#

so i can still try to tweak the settings

#

oh and the touch screen digitizer still works

subtle plank
upper pecan
#

some fragments of the screen still work

subtle plank
#

Alright then try this

#

go into System Settings > TV Settings

#

there are 2 settings in there that you need to change

#

Resolutions and RGB settings

#

change each of them to a different option

#

each time you change one setting, go test it on the dock

#

If you manage to test this Switch on a different dock, we can know which one is broken, the Switch or the dock.

upper pecan
#

I tried adjusting all of them, nothing changed

#

i'm gonna put the blame on the switch, thing's in pretty bad condition right now

#

i'll probably have to buy a new one

subtle plank
#

but hey you can always sell that for some fund

upper pecan
#

yeah

#

the console can be scrapped for parts

upper pecan
subtle plank
upper pecan
#

You’ve gotta be kidding

#

I think it’s been the AC all this time!

subtle plank
#

The AC?

upper pecan
#

Just plugged in my macbook’s charger and it outputs signal just fine

subtle plank
#

You did reset it, no?

upper pecan
#

Yeah, i’ve messed with it a bit

#

It did get a signal through, but it would cut out randomly

subtle plank
#

You sure take risk on using that Macbook charger though, I hope you found that info from the power/charging guide.

#

There is a step to reset the AC adapter, as it can often cause dock issue.

#

But it's also included in the monkey tag

#

Can you try that again with your AC adapter?

HOW TO RESET AC ADAPTER

If your console has issue with charging, no power or other power issue:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall sockets and other devices.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug the AC adapter back into the wall socket then back to the device you want to charge.

upper pecan
#

I’ll try that

#

See if that changes anything

#

I mean i’ll 100% buy a new original AC if this doesn’t help

subtle plank
#

If you have done the monkey steps correctly then this has been done already though.

upper pecan
#

Just using this as a temporary fix since the LCD is completely dead

#

Almost completely dead*

subtle plank
#

Weird though

#

normally if AC is the reason, you wouldn't have a solid green light

upper pecan
#

Maybe the wall plug pins are broken?

#

At least the logic board is fine

#

That was my biggest concern

#

Just went blank again

#

Got it back up again, i’ll keep an eye out to see if it keeps working

subtle plank
#

Alright, remember to reset it every time it happens

#

If it doesn't stay on all the time, you can try to replace the AC adapter, but I'm not entirely sure that's the reason

upper pecan
#

This is such a strange issue, never had a device do anything like this
