#network not popping up

if you have access to the router's control panel, check the network's channel
sometimes it needs to be below 56
if you just wanna check then look for a wifi analyzer app on your phone's app store
Tbh, these are all valid advices, but it does require the user to understand a bit of how Wifi works.
And god damn it, I wish we don't have to go there.
@warped wave Try accessing a Wifi network on a different location and then go back home to test again may yield some result as well.
Beside that, all the methods for Wifi fix are below
TIPS TO IMPROVE WIFI CONNECTION
§ The Switch's Wifi connection is quite weak, thus it always has issue to reach the maximum speed limit of your Internet connection. You can check the connection quality by going into Home screen > System Settings > Internet > Test Connection. To improve it, you can try these steps below:
1. Delete your Wifi connection from the Switch.
Home screen > System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > Choose your network > Clear Settings
2. Restart your Switch by Holding the Power button until the Power option menu appear > Choose Restart.
3. Restart your router/modem by cycling its power (Turning off then on again).
4. Bring your Switch closer to the router/modem then connect to the Wifi again.
5. Add DNS to your Switch's Wifi settings. Type !tag dns for details.
ï¿® Aside from this, you can try:
ï½¥ Using a different waveband for your Wifi, 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.
ï½¥ Changing password and security settings (Yes, it's weird)
ï½¥ Change the channel your Wifi is broadcasting on. Automatic mode is often not very good.
ï½¥ Set a static IP address for your Switch, following the DHCP setting on your router. Google these details to learn how.
It's not that easy, I'm afraid
I have been trying to find a concrete answer for these Wifi issue for a while now and the only thing I can conclude is the Switch's Wifi is shit 😅
I can suggest you like this
For 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz Wifi, it doesn't matter, when your Switch cannot recognize those networks, you will have to try all the methods.
Because it's not like one is always the answer.
Wifi channel is also like that, there isn't a specific one, you have to test on various one.
Sometime it clicks sometime it just doesn't at all.
Well, if you think of it like ehm normal
Wavebands have different "space", yeah? Those are channels.
More Wifi network in the same wavebands like 5Ghz can be broadcasted on the same channel and crowding that "space"
making devices hard to connect
but it isn't the case for the Switch at all, because it's not "hard to connect" it doesn't even recognize the network
Why? I honestly do not know haha
So you just have to change from one channel to another then see which make it appears. For all the cases I have seen there isn't any specific channel at all.
But do try other methods as well.
no, you don't have to
btw can your router do 2.4Ghz as well?
That's normal, are they having the same name?
Yeah I guess it was like that
I may not be able to give you a direct solution to find the 5Ghz network on your Switch
but let me tell you something that can give you some result
Many routers can broadcast on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
And most can do both at the same time
Some can also do "bandsteering" as in, one single Wifi network can direct their signal from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz to suit the devices connecting to it. Which is stronger will be used.
So what you are seeing is basically the same Wifi network, from the same Wifi router.
It should have nearly the same name
just one without anything and the other has a suffice of "5G" or "5Ghz" next to it.
is that the case here?
the same [routername].5G?
or just "5G"?
There we go, that's the same network
from the same router
Is there any particular reason why do you want to connect to the 5G one?
Hey, lack of info isn't stupid, let me provide
2.4Ghz has longer wavelength, stronger at long distance and can go through obstacles better.
5Ghz has shorter wavelength, stronger at short distance, but weaker at long distance and can be easily blocked by obstacles.
So one option for you is: Just simply connect to the 2.4Ghz network and use it as is, no need to concern about 5Ghz.
it's not that simple haha
Yeah, it's stronger when you are near the router
but if you are in the next room, then it's actually better to use 2.4Ghz
and there are a bunch of other factors involve
What I'm saying is, you don't have to use 5Ghz to enjoy good connection quality. And you can skip the hassle of trying to connect to that 5Ghz Wifi
It's not idea, I know. I hate that, but it's an option.
The other option is, my friend, refer to the long list of solutions and many hours of tinkering.
||and then you find out about NAT type||
But keep a look out
I have heard so many cases where the 5Ghz wifi just pop up without you doing anything ._.'
Haha good luck then.
If you still have questions, feel free to post it here.
router's ip?
Yes, you can access the router's config page through its local IP address.
But it's not that simple. You would have to know how to config it. If you mess anything up, it may affect other devices.
Like I said before, the Wifi on the Switch is very wacky. Sometime it just refuse to work with certain Wifi network's configuration.
The solution is often mucking around and change those config.
I have a list of what can be changed under the steps of this tag.

At the bottom
But yeah, you need to know your way around your router's config page
also, you need to know the password to login to that config page, too.
Not sure if it's default or someone has changed it.
Hmm what do you mean?
You meant connect the Switch to the router via ethernet?
It's a different thing altogether, it won't affect Wifi.
...I think
coz ya know, I can't explain how this mythical creature works
Have you tried the steps on that tag above?
the restarting router steps
I can help you finding it but like i mentioned, you need to know the admin login
and then you need to know how to config it
Again, have you tried the restarting router steps?
Read the wifi tag again

Good luck
192.268.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Some router has different IP address, so it's not always those
Sometime it's actually written on a sticker on the router itself. You can go check them.
Otherwise, I suggest finding the manual to it. The default login info should be in there as well.
Well, you can jsut get a name of it then we are set
but eh, make sure you have the right to edit the config
I don't wanna help initiating a conflict between you and the landlord or family member lol
@warped wave Find the model/brand of the router, it should lead you to the manual for it. The default admin login info should be in there.
