crysis was more of a demo of crytek engine, game devs knew that much technical stuff was too much to handle for cpu's of that time, so they designed it in a way that future computers can run it. they figured future cpu's would increase the clock speed of current cpu. so crysis was essentially meant to be run on future tech. But, cpu's increased core count instead of clock speed. this is why cpu's even now can't run it.
