So I've been experimenting with streaking grime and wiping it off with AK white spirits but I had some spots where my paint wiped off
I did one coat of citadel ardcoat thinned with a bit of lahmian medium (maybe 50-50) and after that still had a good bit wipe off on raised edges. Any advice? Might be just that I cleaned up too harshly but I've seen tests where people do fairly rough cleanups without losing paint

You're pushing too hard most likely. The paint is coming off because of abrasion
If you are using cotton buds, roll them. Don't scrub. If you are using a sponge, dab them, don't scrub.
The key take away is don't scrub
If there is an area where it isn't coming off neatly, if you have mineral spirits on your whatever, it will soften up and be removable in a minute
If you don't have mineral spirits on whatever you are using to remove it, it will never come 100% off. So if you want staining, which is a desired effect at times, remove with minimal to no mineral spirits
