#Best shitty airbrush to start with?

Getting a cheap airbrush is fine, they usually cost like 25 bucks. Getting a bad compressor is however a bad idea.

My honest opinion is that if you want to get an airbrush, start with a decent one.

Gaahleri Mobius 0.3 is $55 at the moment and you can get a compressor for $75-100

#

Which is a pretty good airbrush, all parts replaceable and easily sourced

#

You can get a 0.5 nozzle/needle/cap for it for another $25. All purpose brush

Any chance you could provide links for a compressor and newbie airbrush? Don't want to get the wrong thing

I got a 0.2, shipped with an extra needle, $80

Get one of these with a tank, they’re usually around 80-100 bucks and will work perfectly for a better airbrush down the line.

Sorry to be annoying and ask for product links, I just want to be 200% sure

woven musk
#

I personally hate shitty airbrushes though

sour orbit
#

They come from a variety of different brands. Fengda, Timbertech to name a few

Damn, beat me to it

gusty steppe
#

Lol y'all linked the exact same thing

sour orbit
#

Great minds think alike

gusty steppe
#

So that doesn't come with the brush: which do I get? Also, what can a good airbrush do that a doodoo one can't?

woven musk
#

All of these hobby compressors come from the same 2 factories and are just shipped off for branding and paintjobs by other companies.

#

Airbrush, depends on your budget.

sour orbit
#

I started with a pretty cheap airbrush but upgraded to an Iwata Eclipse shortly after.

woven musk
#

What can it do? Not break through normal use, basically, and have replaceable parts for the inevitable mistakes you will make.

Really good ones with smaller needles are more accurate and can do smaller parts

#

But are hard to use for priming/basecoating (smaller hole to shoot paint out of)

gusty steppe
#

I don't need one for priming. Rattlecans work perfectly fine

sour orbit
#

Airbrush priming is a lot cheaper and more convenient

woven musk
#

If it's a decent airbrush though, you just swap the nozzle/cap/needle out of the AB and it's good for any task

gusty steppe
#

Although I did prime a bunch of minis poorly, cuz I didn't realize I was supposed to not drown them lol, so now I have a bunch of primed figures pre-loaded with the occasional bubble here and there

woven musk
#

My first was an Iwata HP-CS with a 0.35

#

And I use it for all sorts of stuff still

#

Bulletproof tool

sour orbit
#

And priming with your nice airbrush isn’t gonna break it. Just learn how to do a deep clean if it gets a bit clogged up. Iwata have good manuals on their YouTube page for cleaning theirs

gusty steppe
#

So what airbrush do y'all recommend, if I were to drop some cash?

sour orbit
#

Depending on where you live, look into the Iwata HP-CS (that’s the eclipse) or a Harder & Stenbeck Infinity.

woven musk
#

If you can be careful and watch tutorials, ask for advice and not leave paint in it - an Iwata HP-CS or an Harder Steenbeck Ultra/Infinity

#

Same lol

sour orbit
#

The price varies a lot between regions

woven musk
#

The Gaahleri stuff is newer but is pretty good, and much cheaper

#

I'm waiting for the 0.2 to test against my infinity

#

If it's even close...it was 1/3 the price

gusty steppe
#

And how do I get other heads for this airbrush? And not to be annoying but... Links, please? 🥺

woven musk
#

Depends on the brand you choose

#

Which depends on budget

#

Which depends on region

#
Gaahleri

Gaahleri is a premier hobby tools brand and manufacturer specializing in airbrushes, air compressors, and waterfall spray booths. We offer high-quality products with affordable pricing without compromising on quality.

#

If you have a Hobby Lobby by you, they seem to be liquidating Iwata stock and have HP-CS for $75

gusty steppe
#

Thank you!

woven musk
#

One thing to stress -> if you dont FORCE any parts on, off or into position, these things will last a very very long time. And Many parts outside of the body itself is replacable

#

But if you are trying to screw something on and crank down on it or use plier or something....you will break it

Not everybody says get a crappy airbrush as your first one

#

Get a crappy airbrush or get a good one. Good ones include:

  • iwata hp-cs
  • h&s 2024 models

Everything more expensive than a crappy one and not one of those two are what people would call a "midrange" airbrush

#

Those are the ones most would agree to avoid (though which airbrushes qualify as "good ones" is certainly contentious)

#

You aren't destined to ruin your first airbrush, it's not like driving stick shift or anything

#

The point is to choose whether to get a good one or a cheap one, don't get like an iwata neo. People here would mostly discourage Badger, grex, etc.

do not make the mistake of thumbing your nose at lesser expensive brushes. The Nedeco SJ83 is a great cheap brush and there's a kit on amazon US for $40. I've got a H+S Infinity, 3 Creos, and 2 Gaahleri airbrushes. And I have 3 Nedecos. I am here to testify that the Nedecos for what they are hang just fine with my $200+ airbrushes. Why do I have 9 airbrushes you ask? Because I'd rather put colors in 4-5 at a time when I'm painting, and I absolutely hate stopping, washing, mixing, and cleaning up after each color change. This way I clean once instead of 5+ times.

#

The Nedeco is a great little brush and I don't hesitate recommending it

#
#

I also second the recommendation of the Timbertech compressor with the tank (I won't bludgeon you with the reason to have a larger 150 PSI compressor too LOL)

yeah $40 is great if it's a working, functional airbrush. Does that thing have a siphon AND a cup? How does that work?
