A tip you can use is to make your work greyscale to see what your contrast is like.
I think you've done great so far, the metal highlights look sensible. I think you want to make the shadows a lot darker though.
To me the weakest part currently is the hair and fur, you can see in black and whit they look basically flat. There should be much more shine there. Hair dye bottles are a great reference for that.
The pattern on the shield is very nice, is that freehand?
Yeah the hair and the fur both have been the bane of my existence today. They certainly need a touch-up once I'm more rested 😅
The shield has the very tiny ripples and they come out beautifully with an oil paint
Something that helped me a lot was working in major volumes on the hair. ignore a lot of the sculpted strands.
