hello!
Im planning to paint a mini with two light sources, a red flare from beneath and moonlight from above.
I already planned out that i will paint the model its intended colours and then use a wash to darken it so the light source lighting will pop and the mini would look like its in a dark jungle.
Just dont know how to make such a wash or what colour the wash should be to both make the lighting i apply look nice and comprehensible and to not block out the greens of ork skin.
Im not really in a position to go buy more supplies at the moment either so making my won wash is my only option for now.
The mini in question is Boss Snikrot

I'd do Purple - it's a nice shadow tone for both Red and Blue.
I used this video ages ago to try making my own. You need to experiment a bit and I'll be totally honest it's probably a lot easier to just go and buy a $3 thing of Army Painter Fanatic wash. Especially if you don't already have a medium at home you'll likely be spending as much or more on the supplies to try to make your own.
Contrast Paint? Make your own heavy washes for use on minis, using the games workshop contrast paints for Inspiration. I share my thoughts on the contrast paint release. I also talk about the value of experimentation when painting minis.
I gathered up my Dark Eldar test models, primed them white, and went to work! I compared dozens of my own h...
hmmmm... ive actually got this shade
do you think it would work?
or too bright?
Yeah that would be fine just apply it in the shadows and don't use it like a wash.
You don't really need washes to be honest - they just help speed up the process of defining your shadows but you also have to bring back your hue & highlights after using them so it probably nets out to similar time consumption.
@harsh cargo thank you :3 came out nicely
