Ive gone ahead and given this leman some weathering, although I still feel like it lacks depth and contrast, any way to make it better?

Look up panel lining like what is done for scale tanks. There's multiple products to accomplish it, but you'll probably find more videos using Tamiya or AK, which are solvent based and require cleanup with spirits. You can also use oil paints, also needing solvents.
New to be used for this is gouache paint, which is like an opaque watercolor and can be cleaned up with water. Though I haven't tested gouache thoroughly, it seems promising.

But panel lining will help with definition between your elements and should help a lot.

#

now im just going to give it an hour to dry

and then clean it up with a sponge and the spirits.

Trust the process I guess, gonna clean it up with the spirits later.

Oilwash does all the difference.

I personally do a black wash to add depth[aka pin wash]. Helps a lot more using harder highlights on areas most exposed to the light (when the modle is placed on a table). And dont be afraid to pack it on!! Its scary watching it dry but trust the process and paint over with a dry brush once the wash has Completely dried. Use the same tan and it should pop like no other
