References will help a lot here. I think you need to currently push the center of the glow up a bit more that way you have more room to play with the diffusion.
I'd also punch up the inside of the mouth with some/more glow. Some edges a but away from the actual glow would also be catching that light, but I feel like that's really hard to feel out how that would look.
Thank you for the suggestions. Last picture is really helpful actually. I will push the white on the center bit more. To be honest sculpt is so bad that it’s impossible for me to decide which areas to keep darker.
I’ll try that. This is first iteration for now. It’s hard to reach and put the shine and cast shadows into correct places.
Experimenting with some sort of stippling. Using purple and yellow dots/scratches. At this point it looks ok for me. I am thinking of glazing over everything using a different color. Current candidate is magenta but I am open to suggestions.
Also I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions to improve.
Oh this reminds me a lot of modern woodland hunting camo
What's the idea behind using magenta glaze?
I just want it to be colorful
Allright, I went full bananas and painted parts that should have been leather with magenta.
Plan is to highlight them a bit and then go over with yellow speedpaint and pray that it looks not gross
Trims became somewhat brown but it’s bit too warm. For now I will stick with that.
As a next step, I am thinking of glazing or washing the coat with another paint to bring it together. But I am not sure at all. Current candidates are Rhinox hide, vallejo cavalry brown or agrax earthshade.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
That's looking really nice
I consider this finished, might do some touchups if I get feedback.
As a note:
- tried rust effect for the first time both on tmm and nmm
-didn’t really worked on nmm - not too happy with the fur on the legs
- face can be improved but due to sculpt there’s high risk of messing up at this point
I would appreciate any comments or criticisms.
Probably won’t be able to work on it for few weeks. Nevertheless, here’s a little sketch for the stormvermin
He looks really good. The rust works very nicely.
I think you could do a little more with the skin, purples in the shadows work nicely and if you mix a skin tone into your green as you highlight it can bring some more life into them. Add just a little pink/red around the lips and eye sockets and it really pumps it up. It does look like there's a bit of pink in the lips already
Further sketch on this guy using the paint left on the palette. Goal is to paint the armor red but too scared at this point.
Any suggestions, comments or criticisms are welcomed.
My first space marine getting into some shape. I like the front and back view but so confused on how things look from the sides. As always c&c welcome.
I’ll call this finished, might do some touchups if I get feedback.
As a note:
- went really experimental with stippling, it turned out not so bad but I might try again something similar with more control
- blue parts look really dull in the photo, they are better in real life
- first time trying basing and it’s not bad at all
I would appreciate any comments or criticisms.
Finally put the red on the red armor. Sketch doesn’t look to bad but I’m not confident that I reserved enough space for the highlights.
Seems to turn out bit too orange for my taste. But, I guess I still prefer it to pink. I am not sure if I punch things up and how to do it
Painted this thing as a gift from my dm. It turned out pretty good for a quick paintjob. As a note:
- wasn’t able to differentiate ribbon and the box using texture
- can’t get the teeth sharp and shiny enough for my taste
- transitioned to fleshy and light colors in the front but lost the contrast a lot
And god I hate sculpted eye holes
Would appreciate any comments and criticisms if anyone sees this
I was holding onto this Antimage for final touches since last year. But, I will call it finished as is. I really enjoyed coloring one of my fav characters. I even typed up a dnd stat block for this guy. As a note:
- really satisfied with the skin and intend to use the same recipe for every muscle guy from now on
- despite it looks too cartoonish I enjoyed colorful blades
-I really struggled doing warpaints/tattoos on his face. As it happens in every project I start building texture so stopped trying to fix it. - eyes are not good but I won’t risk messing the face up and blame the sculpt as always
Would appreciate any comments and criticisms if anyone sees this
Both are finished. I only need to base them, but maybe I don’t 🙃
Here is the finished version of my Stormvermin. I’ve tried new things and learned a lot. As a note:
- Something is off with the red armor. I should have picked between dull red worn out or full blown shiny armor but here it’s somewhere in the middle.
- I still love how red works in the overall scheme
- I tried my best but the face lacks definition. Next time I’ll try different color choices
- Blade on the helmet being steel might not be the best decision.
Would appreciate any comments and criticisms if anyone sees this
Started to another ratboi immediately.
I used drybrush first time after a long while. Other than that I only used a contrast paint for shading and a red to color the cloth.
Currently, I am stuck: can’t decide if I should paint it further. Some parts(especially face and the back) of the miniature needs more definition. But I am really afraid of losing the dramatic lighting which I really liked.
Please let me know if anyone has any comments.
You can try to keep it with reinforcing the lighting. I think it definitely needs more of a colour pop at the moment
Maybe push that red cloth a bit brighter.
Thank you so much! I'll definitely add more color particularly to the skin and refine the red cloth.
I feel like the side by side right here is a great illustration, look at how vibrant that storm vermin looks in comparison. It almost gives the impression you've done a greyscale contrast check.
WIP bases and rats 🐀 🔴
Started another project before finishing others, again. Just applied metallics and now understand why people hate trims. Enjoyed painting pinkish panels now gonna work on darker panels. Yet I have no idea on how to proceed
Liberally shaded/stained the metallics as I didn’t really like the bare version of the paint. Next, I will push the highlights on the pink panels.
Oh damn that transition looks ace
Initially I tried keeping armor darker and more neutral. But near bright pink it looked too boring.
Now only tassels left, which will either make or break the mini🙃
I gotta unleash my 4 months worth of backlog
First, my slapper guy
I am okay with this guy, started him with leftover paints on the palette. Best way to figure out the color scheme.
I particularly like the color scheme of this guy. I believe it really delivers the sickly theme. Chippings under the arm kept reappearing, guess primar sidn’t stick too well.
It was mostly practice of keeping red as red. It catches the eye but don’t really like this color comb on this model. Also noticed that veins don’t really read well.
Still proud of getting the whole gang done!
Some more progress:
- Horse skin is done
- very roughly put white and then fluo paint on recesses of ghostly bits. Started darkening the raised parts but lot of smoothing to be done.
I already like the overall feel but if anyone finds some specific spot is off please let me know.
-finished the bone parts painting orangeish. I highlighted it sparingly and up to near white but not perfectly sure it’s impactful enough. Lmk?
Helmet will be red. Will just highlight face near white purely for definition. But this leaves me two surfaces to pick colors for.
- Which color should be the reins and ornation on it.
- which color should the sword be. It needs to be impactful. I am thinking of a darker rusted metal but need to find a good reference.
It's looking really nice so far. I'd probably go with a lighter rust on the sword, something to keep it in line with the horses' head that will give you a nice weight of composition with your colours
I ended up painting it red in a rush for lgs competition. I am not happy with it probably repaint it after I get the mini back.
Painted this for a pal’s character in dnd. Overall I am happy. As a note:
- Pictures reveal that I worked with chalky paint and could have smoothed more.
- I am proud of the chest hair even if it’s not perfect.
- Tried blue ambient light from the right. It worked in some places but looks very bad in other spots especially the pants.
As always appreciate any comments and criticisms.
They shared (overexposed) pictures, here’s the submitted version of my clown fiesta ghost. Let me know if you have any comments. I’ll definitely work on it when I get it back. Probably convert reds to orange.
Made this weird experiment on these low detail minis. This is the next trio for goal 2. I really like the overall feel. Started rendering one of them a bit more, but unfortunately it’s not necessarily looking better so far.
This was from a while ago. Here’s my dwarf cleric. Made the cape intentionally textured but not sure it worked. Any feedback is appreciated.
Working on this Hashut guy. Overall I am happy but purple skin is not really readable and it’s turning pretty white when I add too much kraken lavender( violet highlight)
Not related to goals but wanted to picture with the used paints to remember.
Need to put on a base and put on the knife.
Some more finished minis from the backlog. Behold my ratz!
As a note:
- I love the grimy feel, particularly gloss due to red ink and nuln oil on the robes worked out well.
- metals are shiny which is nice but moss green or my use of it feels bit flat
- Faces can definitely improve I was lazy and okay with the dirty look
Where's this grot from? I don't recognise that guy?
He is a backseat passenger from squighog boyz. I replaced its hands with some other bits. Normally it was shooting small squigs.
Ah ok, I don't have those one so that explains it
Another one that I was able to take a proper photo only recently. My second space marine.
As a note:
*chest looks weird and somewhat scratchy.
- overall I could dot one more step of highlights and make some prominent places shiny
- I might have used too much wash on metallics making it look dirty
*quite happy with peach buildup
- don’t usually work that colorful, happy with it
Started this guy blue, then glazed some bright yellow green and shifted the color for highlights
Also put some purple to downward edges. This is the current state and I am about to wrap it up.
Considering putting some blue back into transition from purple to green. Would appreciate any other comment and might apply before calling it finished.
