STANDARD HOUSEKEEPING RULES :
You may prep your mini, this includes, gap fill, assemble, purchase and prime ahead of time. Paint should only be applied during the time-frame of the PAL.
Anyone can join in on the fun. Just share your mini first and paint within the time frame. Request your points in the point request channel by following the pinned post on how to ask for points.
You can't submit the same mini for multiple PALs or other multiple events. And units minis can't be split among the different PALS if they are identical .
Have fun and be nice to each other. Share some wips and some laughs.
@sick verge @willow sluice @soft bridge
👌🏽
Why yall fighting? @wispy talon @sick verge ?
But, I guess since the quest is mostly NMM, I’ll come out swingin’ too
Yikes fuck me. You’re not messing around.
Good stuff, gl gl!
Been wanting an excuse to paint her, plus I do need to practice my NMM. Wanna try to add environmental effects to the steel, I think
I’m trying to do that right now but to another model. I’m always trying to work in environment lights to my minis, even when it makes no sense just to get some practice. This one is turning out okay, the last one did not
🤣
I hear that. I’m practicing that with skin tones currently, so next with metals. Can’t be any worse than all those scales 😉😂🥴
Can I give you some advice nan gave me though. Paint the color straight up. As in, don’t paint metal and then osl
Just go straight to color
Good advice
I’ll do this model, just the two weapons and goggles that are metal but they are pretty prominent
Dem boyz!
🤣
I'm gonna paint something really dumb hahaha
This will be fun to watch
okay but what if
I paint this but like the entire thing is a metal statue...
except for the bird
yep, I'm gonna try that, that sounds fun
that sounds so fun
Also I've never painted NMM metal before so if anyone has tips, tricks, tutorials, literature, etc. that would be a huge benefit as I've found myself watching the same 3 or 4 youtube videos on repeat as prep
I made an introductory video here, if you haven't seen it
This was a class broadcasted life on the minipainting discord on 9/30/23 going over the basics of painting non-metallic metal.
I'm more than happy to give feedback as well so don't feel shy about asking!
Nan’s tutorial above is very good. The video that helped me and got me started was this one https://youtu.be/Zux0HAS8pAw?si=0DMzzkCeg5lmohSM
Want to paint Non Metallic Metal (NMM) ? You can use non metallic paints to create a metallic effect, let me show you how....
This video is intended for ages 16 and over.
If you've ever tried your hand at Non Metallic Metal, you'll know that one of the hardest things to get your head around is working out where the highlights go. However, it...
Thank you both very much 😄
Kujo rocks!
Old metal with that green oxidation!
Or full on mega shiny chrome
Pls pls
yeah that could be cool
Tarnished silver?
Honestly I'll end up sitting down and grabbing a random paint and going with it haha
I like it! Let fate decide
Man, Im tempted to tag along with my big ass display model, but Im almost certain I wont finish in two months. Is it still fine to enter?
Of course dude. Give it a crack
Nice! Ill tag along with this big boy. Want to try environmental refelctions for the first time in the armor, which is gonna be the biggest challenge. Paintjob in the pic is by Keigo Murakami btw
Another cool thing to do could be to paint the bird as fire or a blue glowing spirit and have it reflect in the metal
This will be fun / good practice!
I am in
Let’s do this! 💪🍻
I’ll have a go at this
Paint her like she is a liquid metal terminator gone back to assassinate Shakespeare
I’ll do this
Lots of nmm on the car and arms
At some point I want to pick your brain on how you did that bronze for the barbarian helmet. I know it was oils, but still
Yeah sure. As in what colours?
Yes, mainly. It’s so good
Thanks! I guess I followed a similar process to Gold but tried to avoid yellows. Raw Umber (as the cold greenish brown) transparent brown oxide (as a warm reddish brown) and white were the main components, and I added some light turquoise in bits for some oxidation.
I tried to make it aged so, raised bits had shine where they would rub on stuff, but recesses would be more dirty and less reflective
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been marveling at it since you first posted. Three colors, including white. Proof you don’t need a full suite of colors to get great results
Thanks! Yeah a limited gamut stops me going rainbow mode
get out of my DREAMS!'
What is this witchcraft
Interesting light sources. Certainly fire from below, I’d imagine. Pink sky of realm of Tzeentch as top reflection?
Wait, it would be slaanish, not Tzeentch
🐸 ❗
Joining
I have to bring back the shadows
It's not July yet bud!
a bit eager huh? kek
Anybody in here bought the Michal Pisarski NMM Course? Is it good? Would you recommend it? His NMM is stunning and Id like to nearly get on that level one day
I wouldn't recommend it myself
He doesn't explain a whole heck of a lot and NMM is mostly theory
That was my concern. Read some reviews, that he doesnt really talk about theory
Watch my video, watch Kujo's video, watch some of Erik Swinson's streams on YT
richard gray's NMM is also quite gr8
Thanks for the great recommendations!
The theory i try and keep in mind is- have one brightest point per element. Break stuff down into spheres cylinders and flat surfaces. Put bright areas next to dark. Shorter gradient between dark to light = shinier.
These are the points I try to keep in mind too! Great short summary
What do y’all think, mace head left or right?
Hehehe I know what this is
I used the left myself
That’s the one I like too
i'd use the right because it reminds me of ice crown/mordekaiser
the left is very straightforward and nice to paint
Had to google this. League of legends reference? I’ve not played and know nothing
Cool 😎
i adore the colors 🥰
Which of Kujo’s videos would you recommend? He seems to have a number of them on NMM
All of his videos are great
The more the merrier
Cool! That car seems lika alot of fun to paint in NMM
Valeria is ready, and I’m ready to tackle some green steel
I haven’t either. Mostly it’s the bust that seems the most popular
I have some BCC models that could work here 🤔
only one way to get better!
Seems like BCC is pretty popular for this PAL 😄
Changed my mind gonna paint my first Inu kingdoms that’s been sitting in my to-paint pile since Adepticon…of 2023
Damn, thats a cool model
Base coating so far
When I put sepia ink to bring shadows, do I just to the parts not in the light or how do I do that step
So, metal doesn't actually have shadows
It reflects light and dark things around it
Planning your dark reflections is as important as planning your light ones
I’m going for the sphere top spot cylinder mid column
And planes bottom
But I don’t know how to plan the shadow part
Just next to it to add contrast?
The problem I tend to face is I loose the shadows in the process
You can put them wherever is sort of the thing
Having them closer to your brighter reflections will increase the contrast
There's no rhyme or reason why these are where they are, I just liked the balance so I kept working it
NMM is as much about feel as it is theory
That does look great Nan
@gusty wyvern I wouldn’t necessarily do a recess wash on nmm
Metals often reflect brightly from recessed areas
I don’t know where to put them haha
I’ll do one session of light one of shadow one light one shadow
And see where it goes
Id sketch the reflections ignorint the ‘texture’ of the piece just following the curves
Yea
Next light will cover some following that
The sphere spot the cylinder columns and bottom plane reflections
I normally kill midtones
And shadows when I’ve done it
On the note of very reflective NMM: Im trying to (kind of) replicate Keigo Murakamis Version of the figure im painting.
The reflections of the sky is where the parts face upwards and the green hills horizontal/in the middle on the part, right?
Yeah looks like it
It’s a cool effect
Very cool
Yep, Lan does a lot of strong environmental reflections like this, Kirill as well
Did a bit more base layer (introducing purple) and started light on the arm and edges
Lets go, first session today
NMM and a horse? Hard mode activated lol 😆
I wont finish in time, but thats fine 😄
That’s a tricky model!
Feels good to finally work on a big project again + I love the sketching phase for NMM. Overall a great evening 😄
I still need to pick a model for this - thinking something relatively simple since I’ve only NMM’d…twice?
That looks like a masterclass model hahaha
Id say... pick the model your most excited to paint, no matter how complex it is. If your easily overwhelmed, I would factor that in and go for something simpler. But overall just pick what seems most fun and exciting
not sure will i be able to finish mini until august but will post current WIP.
Exploring environmental lighting in shiny armour
Ooh I like that mini!
Playing around with evironmental reflections on NMM for the first time. The shoulder looks good in my opinion, but the arm needs some work, the brightest highlight is way too big
NMM is always such a humbling experience, but I feel like Im on the right track. Alot of the placements are copied from Keigo Murakami, but this is so much fun. Ill probably desaturate the sky and earth reflections some more though. What do you guys think?
Right now the saturation is popping a bit much but that could just be cos the rest of the model is in grayscale. Maybe paint the rest first?
That could very well be it. The NMM was just a little treat to get me started, next session will include some basecoating of the surroundings for sure. Well see then
looking good! may be more defined line between sky and earth would be beneficial, also darker sky colours will increase contrast even more.
On class which i experienced with sky&earth nmm we did them rather dark
Woah, great advise and great model. This definitely reads very clearly as a very shiny metal. Il take your points into account continuing with my NMM study 🙂
Also had some time to put some more work in, Im liking where this is going. Probably gonna start the Horse though, before continuing her
Whats everybody else up to? Got a chance to work on your projects? Im curious 😄
Your sky is getting dark at the horizon too, the sky is lighter at the horizon @hard seal
Huh, I thought when the sky reflection fades into the dark part of the NMM it should get darker. Seems I got that wrong
Well if it is reflecting the sky
The sky itself is lighter at the horizon
And then typically you have a darker horizon line
On really reflective surfaces
Oh now I think I got it. So lightening up the sky at the horizon should be the way to go. At the moment it looks like the sky is one big dark blob
Yeah you want to try and capture some of that gradient ideally
Will try my best 🫡
But sounds doable
I’m working on the tiny bit of skin and hair first, since 90% of Valeria is metal. I’m not happy with the hair, so resetting it, and need to tweak the eye lids some
Bigger than I thought it would be. Very cool sculpt
very cool indeed!
Wouldn’t the chest here also be reflecting sky?
not really, his left chest piece could a bit
I’m in the same stage as you
I wanna get back to painting metals. I’ve realised I like doing metals and skin, and I’m out of my comfort zone doing most other materials
skin and hair are still pretty challenging for me. starting to understand metals a bit more
just want to say am happy to give feedback on anything, just pingeth me
might take you up on that when I get a little further along
Gon try
Gonna try so.ething crazy for this one and try to do Crowe in chrome.
Looks good to me
Not nmm. At least not yet
More refinement here. Am probably going to leave it alone till more is filled out then revisit
Got myself a skaventide box and gonna do the stormcasts in chrome. Itll be a disaster but I’ll learn something
will wait for your progress! it is going to be challenging
Started on her- using acrylics for the first time in like 7 months
Doing some shiny clothing, the orange was a bit of artistic effect rather than realism, do you think it works?
Might chicken out of acrylic skin, it’s so hard
You got this
Also, airbrush is your friend
Yeah might try airbrushing after the brush work maybe with the 0.15mm
@wispy talon does the orange in the shadow of the blue work?
What is the intent?
Just to look cool
Then yeah why not hahah
It might read as a bounce light though.
I just never really know what to do with shadows on things that aren’t metals do prevent them being dull
I have a very beginner question - how do you all manage smooth gradients when using White?
I’m still struggling to find the right consistency with white to glaze or even stipple glaze where it doesn’t leave little random pigments and chaulky streaks behind.
what are you doing with it?
Well I’d like to take a crack at this Paint Along but my command over White is not great and that makes me nervous haha
Figured I’d try to ask ahead of diving in to a fully NMM piece
There's not much blending of white tbh
Hmm more blending of Greys then?
Or any tones
But even then, NMM is not about the blending really
Placement is king
Look at this for shiny nmm style with what looks like minimal blending
Apologies in advance if this image awakens anything in you
Huh, who knew. Ok that makes me feel more confident going into this. I was looking at some folks’ blending and was a bit overwhelmed ahahha
That’s really cool how well the placement of the red & white reflections sell that as metal
Now the other question - 28mm or bust?
Bust!
Hahah ok sounds good gotta dig through the pile!
@keen pewter Nuts Planet Shield Maiden or Mind Works Academic Red?
I think Red offers more metal
I’d do mindworks red. Nice sword to practice and some more challenging shapes on the arm
Sweet that’s where I was leaning too. Will get it cleaned up today ✌️
You and Nan can prepare yourselves for lots of questions from me hahah
Super cool!!!
Dang, thats rad
Wow
Daaanng that is dope dope
Gonna be tricky to get a realistic reflection from her leaning on it
Did a bit of digital retouching to plan improvements but it’ll all change once she’s on
I just love painting chrome haha, this feels like the large scale spiritual successor to my necromunda
You use an app for your digital sketching on minis right? Would you mind sharing the name of the app? Sounds like something that would aid my creative process
Yeah it’s just sketchbook i use on my phone
Thanks! And as you said, painting her reflection on the car is probably gonna be the biggest challenge
Holy cow. This is incredible. I give up lol
Mine doesn't look like metal yet lol
Don't people say that nmm looks like crap until like the 6th step ir is that something I made up to feel better?
I really like, early on, to give it the "squint test"
hold it at arm's length and squint, does it read as metal?
Squint test is one of the biggest helps for me no lie lol
Annnnd dine. Maybe. I might do some refinement tomorrow. I have a competition on Saturday so this guy has a shelf life
Looks awesome!
thank you thank you
Assembled and gap filled this moody boi
Dope dude. Real nice. 🤘🏾🤘🏾
This is amazing, I especially love the fabric
that's sick! I want to go to palm springs now
The storm casting has begun. With a face. Ish.
It’s not an nmm bit but still reflections- fairly happy with how this jacket is turning iut
Light penetrating for the warm leather, with some direct sky reflections in blue for where it just bounces off
Overall supposed to be shiny brown Les the
Leathwr
Looks dope. I’m a sucker for scuffs in the shadowy areas of leather for that kinda worn look just as a suggestion
Like highlighted scratches?
Yeah scratches, scuffs or just stipling with a lighter color inside the darker areas. It might be totally subjective I just like the aesthetic. Ends up looking worn rather than fresh off the rack. Maybe test in an editor since you’re a wizard Harry
Quick 45 min gold sketch. Im still not getting along with gold NMM, BUT i think Im getting there. Still need loads of refinement
Do you want some input?
Always!
Right now there's way too much of that dark purply tone, and it's throwing it off a bit. I woulkd introduce some more softer brown tones if you want to stick with this pale gold tone, and placing some secondary reflections with dark ones in between can help you shrink a bit of the midtones down
Great advice, thank you! I agree with all of what you said, just didnt think of that. I would need some help with 2 things:
- Are there any tipps for painting very ornament stuff like this or is it just plowing through it?
- What would I have to do to get a richer gold? And is it a good idea to mix a rich and pale gold right next to each other? Maybe secondary reflections in a warmer gold? Sounds interesting to me at least
ornaments are the hardest part of nmm for me lol
damn that's nice
Phoenix miniatures
@hard seal here is something with similar shapes to yours
Hi everyone!
We are back from Adepticon 2023! It was amazing. Thanks again to everyone who came to sau hello to us and @nekogalaxyminis
Amazing version of Niobe painted by @davecolwell725 check out his post to learn more

God I love Dave Colwell’s stuff
Me too
Who painted that?
Ladislav Meier!
Damn, looking good so far!
Sorry I can’t read lol
Pushed some more paint around
Might have to mute the gold later on though, I fear it might draw too much attention. Gonna leave it at that and continue elsewhere on the model
Depends if you consider the horse to be the main character or not
Definitely want her to be the main character. But Ill probably adjust as I progress further
In case I wanted to tone it down.. The Airbrush would be a good choice, right? Tone it down and then rehighlight as necessary would be my guess
Airbrush glaze or brush glaze yeah
I did this for #1250167946484125777 but I’m posting in here because it has a good amount of NMM lol. Would love any critiques on the NMM. Mixed feeling about different parts of it
What are you unsure of?
I think I’m making progress but also I don’t really know if it’s going the right way. If you see anything sus other than unpainted areas please lmk
Trim around the shield and the belt buckle stand out to me as the weaker parts.
Gold seems super subjective what people dig in NMM but for me maybe there’s a bit much of white and not enough brown. Having said that, it looks good so take it with a grain of salt.
Thanks!
Take it with a grain of salt, as Im not doing NMM for that long and struggle with gold myself.
For the shield the highlights may be too symmetric. The brain is good at picking out patterns and for the light to be shining in the exact angle for the highlights to be symetrically split on thr shield seems unlikely. But I could be wrong there.
The belt buckle needs more contrast in my opinion, so maybe try and deepen the shadows the nose of the face on the buckle also seems a bit flat, as its just one continuos highlight colour.
But as I said, take it with a grain of salt 🙂
Did some more sketching, leaving it at this for tonight
Do the trims on the neck barding need to reflect since they are facing up?
I think theyre not actually facing up, theyre facing to the side. The inside of the trim is facing up though, but not the side youre seeing right now
Yeah originally the highlights were not quite as symmetrical but somehow in the course of futzing they migrated to where they are now 😆- good notes, thanks
Like light would bounce off that edge
Coming from the top etc. damn I’m bad at English
Yeah, for sure it would, youre right. Its just a quick sketch atm though, thats why thats not worked out yet 😄
Oki!
I think maybe there not enough white in the mix but ¯_(ツ)_/¯ dunno
Looking so good. I think the leg plate needs a touch of the earth colour where the nubbins would reflect downwards maybe?
Yeah the leg(s) are on the todo, just some splotches of blue there, but you’re right and I probably would have missed it. Thanks 🙏🏼
Painted the shield today. Still WIP, but close to finishing it.
Slowly feels like its coming together
Really like the vibe of the ochre-like color you got going in the metals
Delicious
Do folks use any image editor ahead of time to map out the shapes of metal objects on minis? Doing so to understand the overall shape ie (cylinder, sphere, etc) to know where to place reflections.
(I’m very new to NMM so I think this sort of exercise would help me)
I don’t really have any good methods for it but on particularly difficult shapes I ask for help from people that I know understand light better. No like complete sketches or anything just some outlines of where light might bend too. Other than that I just try to do the spotlight photo method a lot
Also my Chromecast is definitely taking shape now. Some funny business going on here and there still and the face needs to be revisited
Getting started on the red NMM
Thanks! Yeah, learned I like that alot too, so Ill just continued doing it haha
Prolly my last update here, gonna sit down for a few hours tomorrow and fix mistakes and sort out edges. Was a very fun experiment to spend a few days on
This is fire!
Very well done! It clearly reads as chrome to me.
Would you mind sharing a little about your photography? Your backgrounds are BLACK, the photos are sharp and the lighting is very good
Sure but it’s quite dumb. Shoebox, black tshirt draped over it and the mini in front of the tshirt draped shoe box. Window is facing the mini. That’s it. 🙂
Started sketching. Light source will be at 11 o’clock or so when looking at the front of the mini.
I have no idea what I’m doing but by golly I’m gonna try haha
Also process wise is it worth blocking in some other colours for reflection colour information or just go for the metals first?
Added some more greys just on the model’s left arm. Very much just sketching about. Getting a feel for the process and trying to place reflections
Worth overdoing reflection sketch. Like too much brightness. It’s much easier to glaze down than up so despite the fact that it might look chaotic plonk down strong reflection sketches, protect the shadows. I mean that’s at least how I try to do it I’m sure everyone has a process
Thanks for the tips! Will add some stronger white tomorrow.
I’ll be leaning pretty heavily on y’all for this haha
Makin’ my way through this armor. Couple things left on the red bits and then on to the gold
Lookin fantastic. I have issues painting red period, you're killing it.
Futzing about. Trying to figure out composition and light placement. Ideally the light is coming from above and behind the mini’s right shoulder, casting the face in a pretty dramatic shadow. But I also want to the front of the mini to be interesting to look at so trying to place some light there too, just unsure of how to accomplish both.
Maybe a subtle secondary enviromental light coming from 3 o'clock could make for some nice contrast. Im not a person to play alot with light (yet) but thats probably how I would approach it, wanting the result you want
That’s a good idea! Still trying to figure out what sort of light I want too. Initially I was thinking a sort of dusky scene, but maybe I’ll moonlight as main light source then a fire as secondary light source.
Gonna go up one more level to some very sparing highlights in white on the red armor
That looks sweet - love the little nicks/damage.
More paint. Current mental image is 11 o’clock main lights source slightly behind model, and another more subtle light source at 3-4 o’clock slightly in front of the model.
Any help is super appreciated!
I just took a scroll through here to look at the work everyone was doing. Damn this is nuts you are all killing it.
Blending in oils now
looking awesome so far
Is the car and base all scratch built @keen pewter ?
The car comes with her, I just did the sand and cacti. I wanna make the sand waaaaay smoother
maybe pva
Ugh I can't figure this out.
What are you aiming for?
I think(?) I’m making progress(???). I dunno but I’m definitely moving paint around haha.
I might try to tackle the hair next as that kind of informs colours in secondary reflections.
Camera angle is roughly where main light source is coming from
This has definitely been a learning process 🥵
Looking pretty great so far
The smartass answer is "nmm". I feel like I know all the technical details on painting nmm but just fail at actually achieving it in the hand. In this particular instance I'm trying to make some bright silvery steel, almost chrome but without the mirror finish.
Always! I got some help from Ian yesterday and am still working through that but I’ll always say yes to more input!
I still need to decide on skin and hair to add some of that colour to the reflections, and I kind of want to darken the armour to make it moodier. I have some inks I can glaze over for easier colour management too.
So still very WIP but happy to get feedback on light placement and what might make my life easier to achieve those goals.
Red armor done - moving on to the gold 🙂
Appreciate that! Next step is definitely to add some colour in 🙂
Gold!
I think I still need a lot more contrast but blacking out the other elements made a big difference in me starting to "see metal"
I feel like Im making good progress, but Ill need a change and not do NMM for a while. Maybe Ill start the face or base tomorrow
Calling it done! Had no idea what I was doing going into the nmm red but pretty happy with the result.
Would love any C&C now that it's done!
Red reflection from his cape.
And attempting to sketch in the osl. Will probably have yo work on this a lot after the sword is painted.
First real try to Nmm.
Would you describe Brass as a greenish yellow?
Google shows me so many different brass colours haha
Felt like painting today so I made some red leather straps, just slapped yellow ochre on the buckles and earrings, and I didn’t like the direction of the gloves so I put purple on them - these will eventually be brought down to a very dark black-purple leather/cloth. Also made the eyes red
I guess it’s a coldish yellow yeah, a bit colder and duller than gold.
Sweet thanks, might just glaze in some greens and greys onto the buckles and earrings. I love that this elf is wearing hoops haha
That was fast!
Insane progress hahah
and finally nmm stage for nmm pal
Think I'm done the steel armor.
experimented with spear being lit from flame and from general lighting, i haven’t enjoyed nmm like this in a months
Almost there looks awesome. Well done!
Gorgeous!
Trying to improve my nmm by doing stormcast band for warcry
This isn't for this PAL, but here's some NMM anyway!
Mainly worked on hair and did some skin on left arm.
Did some more gold on the banner. Gold and me are not friends yet, but we're getting there
Did some work on the model’s left arm armour. Lots of complicated shapes and interactions on this one.
Is there ever an instance in NMM to give the whole section/piece an unifying glaze? I’m puttering around a lot and wondering if that would help reduce the overall value, desaturate some of the colour, and just tie things together a bit more.
If so, probably comes after refining reflection placement and other intermediate glazing steps?
I’m definitely more confident in the forearm and elbow section than I am in the wackadoodle shoulder pauldron. So many concave angles!
As always any feedback is greatly appreciated!
It's looking fantastic.
Ha thanks! I think it looks rough as!
Do you want feedback?
Sure!
Ok #1 heap of salt because I’m incredibly new at this haha. Visually it looks like all your values are in place you’re just lacking a bit of saturation/intensity.
Maybe an ink glaze would help bring back some yellow into the metal?
Youre all good, were in this together haha. Yeah I want it to be a desaturated gold, but I think I took it a little too far. Glazing in some orange/yellow may be a good Idea, maybe even with the airbrush
Oooh gotcha. Ok if that’s what you’re aiming for then you’re definitely on the right track haha
I've still got a ton left to do but I think I'm at least done the nmm.
Very impressive on a 28mm sculpt
oh hell yeah I am painting the perfect mini for this
wipperino
I started it about 2 days ago
edit: checked, its 4 days ago
but yah, first 2 days were just the cape (i was painting at work while there were no incoming calls), yesterday I didn't touch it, and today I was working on the body
I've done nmm twice with only one time looking pretty okay. So naturally I'll take a shot at this paint along with a full suit of armor
They look great. Very clean
Ok proud of the difference between this gauntlet and the rest. Some skill progress hahah
Local painter shocked that taking a painting class has made them a better painter
...local painter also realizes they still need to do his other arm and shield and 😭
Started working on the sword too
The lighting/reflections on the hair are incredible!
Thank you! Really appreciate the boost of confidence haha this is a pretty overwhelming project
I painted a banner.
Very nice!
Worked on blending the right arm today and a bit more sword work.
The right pauldron is still a hot mess that continues to confuse me hahah
Juiced up the leather, switched directions on the sword hilt, and blended the armour NMM some more.
Still thinking about shifting the tone of the skin darker.
I like how the front of the shield came out, but something about the inner shield doesn't feel quite right and it's starting to make me go insane trying to figure out what
Is the inner shield concave? If so treat the light reflections like you would see on a spoon. That might help?
fair warning I am incredibly new to NMM
I'll give that a shot and see how it looks. The shape of the shield is less smooth curve and more of a > shape than a smooth curve. But it is so slight I wasn't planning on highlighting it as it's really shaped
Finished.
I'll probably finish this guy I started painti g today in time for this hehe
coming along
Gonna call this done, after taking a couple days off and working on the base I have determined my problem with the shield was that it was nearly midnight and I had been staring at it for 3 hours
All in all for a 3rd proper attempt at NMM I'm pretty proud of it
I know they’re just set pieces but the cacti are really well done haha.
This is fantastic. I'm most impressed by the tattoo. I couldn't freehand letters on mine.
I'll wrap this up today after work, just the golds and blade steels are left
oh that's super cool! Where's that model from? And awesome job with it!
thanks :3 I modeled it myself! 😄
Oh sick! Well good job!
I won’t be able to finish this before the end of August as I received a lot of great feedback so will be refining things for a while. However, this paint along was great encouragement to take the first steps into a large NMM project. Been learning lots along the way.
Here’s where the model is at now.
finished the sandy boi!
This is awesome and even more so cause you sculpted it yourself. Absolutely adore the cape
thank youuuu
still second guessing if going with a red cape was a good idea or nah lol
Really fantastic work dude, love it!
thanks Ian
The weapon especially dude, very
🤌
How was it painting something you sculpted yourself?
when painting the weapon I realized I can just make it metallic in blender and use that as reference 🤣
its a lot like painting an extensively kitbashed model tbh, it has that extra dash of being proud of it haha
I didn't get started in time for the paint along but figured maybe you guys would appreciate this guy
gorgeous!
omg i especially love the sabatons
🤌🤌🤌
so good
Thanks! You also taught me a new word 😂
was it "🤌🤌🤌"? 😛
