Hi painters,

I've been trying to follow Sorastro's fire giant tutorial but I feel like I've messed up the OSL from the sword pretty badly.

Is there anything I can do to rescue this without stripping the model? I think it should be more yellow in the middle and orange/red further away? I would appreciate any explanations in very basic steps.

It's not really the sword, but a matter of how it is read by the viewer's eye in comparison with the surroundings. In order to sell the effect the source of the light should be the brightest bit of the models, so it should have the highest value. Overall your skintone and golds are very high key so when you look at the figure your eyes doesn't feel like the body is lit by a light coming from an external source. That said from a theory pov, I don't think you need to strip the model at all but you need to work a lot on building up and reinforcing your shadows. Light always sells better when surrounded by shadows, so for example you would need to make them much stronger below the arm that is holding the sword and on the whole left side of the body which is far from it. In this way you'll feel like the model is actually lit by the osl. If you have an airbrush this work will be much quicker and effective, otherwise you can patiently glaze darker tones into your shadows by brush
