#WorthIt-Along May - June 2024

Oh! I can do my first bust for this, which I have been terrified to paint! I just mounted and primed it.
I'm going to pick a model from the important ones when I get home
Like mentioned before. My entry will probablybe this large, I am guessing around 14 cm high till tip of lance, chunky goblin knight. 9 cm I guess not counting lance.
I’ll take a look
I think I'm going to do this one
Either one of those is my “not worth it mini”.
The smaller one will be my DnD mini (need to make it less naked)
The bigger one will be a concept for a stronger version of the character.
I need to choose which one I’m painting
Very cool designs. I'd be tempted to start with the smaller one since it's the not as powerful version of the 2. That way you csn easily enhance the complexity of the color scheme when you do the "evolved" form
The color scheme is simple. Black, white, and gray. The small is mostly black, while the big needs to reflect this symbol - half and half
Oooo
I'd probably do smaller one so I'm not restricted in time but if you feel you can get the big one done in the time frame go for it
The main problem with the big mini is that the assembly didn’t go as well as I wished. I’ll have a lot of gap filling to do
That sucks. In that regard mine though big is heavensent in the assembly. It goes so incredibly well and tight together I don't think I need to do anything but glueing the pieces together. Haven't found any spot anywhere where cleanup is needed either. The quality is second to none.
i bought this bust year ago and was too afraid to paint it for dad, now i am ready !
I’ve got this model and it’s pretty intimidating. I don’t know if I’ll have time to finish it by June but I’ll have a go
Just my humble opinion.... but.... DO IT!! It's freaking awesome!!
Oh yeah I’m gonna, for sure. Just got a diorama thing going on that’s gonna take all of this month so we’ll see if I make it time wise🤣
Oh damn, coming in here with a real heavyweight start eh. Looks fantastic!
After seeing Mothman’s work… I’m not worthy xD
you are! show what you got!
Awesome. Shame this along is not june-july. I will have joined. This and the next month is going to be a hell toe so almost no paint and already have to do aow and btd events
I'm sure if people like this this will be brought back in the future. I can do a few of these before I am through my... I wanna paint this... eventually, when I finally dare pile ^^
Dont worry have already lots of minis im keeping back because im too bad painting at the moment so if its again i will join.
I primed my boy
Lol so much sass in this little guy
Been saving this guy for when I actually figured out what i'm doing with an airbrush but since that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon, let's try it now.
Which company are the bust from, it looks great

Big models seriously intimidate me because all my horribleness is amplified.
But I decided to start on this guy last night
Questionable if I am going to make it before PAL end as I do not want to rush this one. I just have to see how far I get. Hope to get atleast the horse done fully.
Started basecoating the "horse" and barding.
It's hard to know if I'll have a chance of finishing something if I get involved in this PAL, but I like the idea so much that I don't know if I'll resist, big minis are a challenge for me, my comfort zone is small ones, I have a lot of options here , I'll take a look at my boxes...but I think I'll only start in June...😅
Will be waiting for your piece!
Alright. Im gonna start mine. Finished the diorama earlier than I thought. Lesgoooo
Started
After looking at several things here I chose this one because it's really frighteningly big, I hope I can finish it and that it serves as a stimulus and learning experience for me, I have others waiting their turn in line 😅
It already has a first coat of primer
It seems like the only way to finish is to start, so I took advantage of Saturday afternoon to add some color with the airbrush 😀
i am ready, what a beautiful bust to paint. Had tons of fun
Beautiful saturated colors, good job on textures! 😍🤩
thanks mate, mean a lot hearing it from you
Absolutely excellent, I love the result! 👍
And as always then you take picture of bust you immidiately see how to improve it
lol
glazed pinkish reds to his face to make it less undead like
and as usual, picture from workplace turned out far better then staged photo with backdrop
Same here, I always discover several errors when looking at my pictures 😅
The upper part is green because I wanted to make it look like she wears a shirt and not completely naked. I don’t think it works. I’ll probably just change it to the skin color (dark gray)
Probably because the clear cleavage that it looks off. Shirts would fall differently and we instinctively feel that. I have resculpted this on some minis in the past for this reason for someone. Looks like bodypaint like this. I like the color though. I will have the opposite on my PEZ bust. I would like to make it look like skin where there is the upper part of a shirt and put tattoos there. But that would make that part look wierd smooth/undefined/unnatural
Thank you! Yes. That makes sense. I didn’t want to sculpture anything on this mini, but I also didn’t want to have her be half naked. It didn’t work. Naked it is…
Doing some work on this guy 🙂
Hi, don't give up on your idea so quickly ❤️, I believe that the best thing in this case is to define the colors of all areas before defining more clearly, perhaps some type of transparency as if it were a very thin and tight fabric, leaving areas with nuances of the skin color. 🎨 🖌️
Just started. Primed and ready to go. Gonna try to learn something on this already intimidating model
What it looks like assembled^
grrrr... dropped the horse head just before priming. ears broke off. one found and glued back and pretty much invisible that anything happened. But the other ear is nowhere to be found, like vanished from the face of the earth. Very frustrating. It's not beyond my capabilities to resculpt it if it remains lost... but I rather won't, please send me good search vibes ^^ These things tend to temporally (sometimes for quite a while) knock the wind out of my sails in the paintingmood for a certain project. And like a toddler I tend to get distracted by the next shiny then ^^
Do the flashlight trick! Turn down light and shine a flashlight along every surface and look for tiny shadows 🙂
Also good luck you can do it!
Sad, 😿I'm sad to know, something similar happened to me above, the ears of the hippo that I'm painting in this PAL, it must be some curse, they were separated from the head and when I was removing the mold line it was ejected from my hand in such a way way that has never been found, and look, no one is allowed to sweep or clean my studio, only I clean without a vacuum cleaner and I always do a good inspection before disposing of the trash. I had to resculpt one of them, then tell me if my work turned out decent. I hope you have better luck, but if you don't find it I'm sure you'll make a new one and we'll laugh about it again when the ear appears in some smart goblin's mouth. Come on 💪, we won't leave you out this time! 🥰
Getting somewhere with this, but feels very rough still
Although I’m starting quite late, and I haven’t painted anything in 18 months, I need some motivation and want to paint something I’ve been saving!
Come on, join us 🎉, everyone here trying to take a step forward, we still have time!
Needs a little more work on his base, but feeling OK with it, other than not knowing what various parts are supposed to be >.<
Looking good dude!!
Well I am not worthy... this PAL runtime atleast.
Ear resculpting ran into some bad luck, never found the original either... and paintingtime got a lot more limited during the runtime of this PAL (also for fun reasons, so no need for pity 🙂 ). So no chance in hell I am gonna finish it in time anyway. So decided to opt out of this one. Keep gobbo knight on the worktable as a slow burner and paint it in between over a long time and focus on the other PALs instead that I can finish. So gobbo-knight is not off the table... PAL is
Calling him done *for now
I’m done for now. I need to revisit this model but I have to put it away for a while. Calling it done
The idea behind this pal was to paint something I’ve been dreading and.. it was as hard as I thought, and couldn’t fully deliver on what I had in mind. But it’s close
I think it looks wicked.❤️🔥
Its amazing!
Put down some base coats today. This is my first bust and by far the mini with the most skin.
Goal will be a cold white for the moon, with rich auburn hair, and relatively fair/warm skin to contrast.
Worked more on the skin and sketched some highlights. Will need to blend more of course.
Congratulations, you achieved an incredible result with this work, the luminosity you produced is incredible and the way it lent even more strength and impact to this scene! awesome job!!😍🤩
ooo this is a good one, I may jump in the ring
so great man. I know you struggled to do this and you should be proud of that
it also looks rad af
🔥
Going to see if I can get this one done in the timeframe
gunna see if i can pick up something cool from UK Games expo (as one of my quit buying exceptions) to take part in this :D
lifes been gettin in the way of painting so a big project to redeem myself is needed
Spent an entire day just doing base coats and i'm still not done 🥴
Gonna call this guy done. 2nd attempt at NMM and 1st time thinking it actually looks good
My hippo fell on the table and fractured his tooth, I had to take him to the dentist and now he has a prosthesis.
I hope he has a painless recovery
I don’t know if I’ll be able to complete this one in time 😭. The slice of life bust has been taking a really long time
I need to work some more on my chameleon but i might just fail this one. We shall see!
I don’t like how she came out, don’t know why or how to fix it :(
What don’t you like about it?
I don't know :(
I waited so long with this mini and it is not what I was hoping it to be...
Is there a particular part you are happy with or unhappy with? Skin, hair, metallics, dress etc?
No... I just dint like it
I created a base for her. I hope I’ll be able to come up with ideas for what I don’t like.
If you can help me find things to improve, I’ll be grateful
The base will be redish
Sorry, I missed that.
The skin is not finished and I would love some feedback that can help me improve
I made the base and did more work on the skin. I’m starting to feel more comfortable with it
Ooh with the base it looks really good!
Re the skin I think I would just try to add some hue variation. Maybe glaze some purple into the shadow areas so it’s less monotone?
Also for your highlights you can try to match the highlight warmth/coldness of the dress so that the model exists in the same space. Ie if you have warm highlights on the dress you should aim for warm highlights on the rest of the model.
Working a little more on my Hippo, adding some light on skin
This character supposed to be monochromatic. This (image) is her symbol and her colors are black and white. This is why I avoided any hue in her body. I tried to add the colors via her clothing.
However, there is a Drow character I’m working on, and will use it on her.
Regarding the highlights, this is a great tip. The skin highlights are colder (bluish gray) and the clothes highlight are warmer (I’ll be adding more yellow).
I did it to create contrast between the skin and clothing, making the cloth more alive in contrast to a very monochromatic body. However, if it looks odd, I’ll add more warmth to the skin tone.
Thank you for the feedback! I’ll be happy to hear more if you have! I truly appreciate it!!!
I watched a reel with a hippo named Buttons and now I am naming your hippo Buttons. I
him
I decided to leave the warm highlights on the clothes and cold on the skin. I like how it makes the character look less alive.
Any suggestions, feedback or advice? Something I should fix or leave it like that?
I will put highlights on the face. In the front the eyes go the dress not the face o if not the hair but the face is diluted. Dont know of is the foto but its what i can see. Not pro even intermediate, so maybe another with more experience can tell...
I'll be totally honest I'm still new to this hobby and very, very new to colour theory so I'm not sure how to approach pulling off the monochromatic goals you have! Might be worth opening a thread in #1019648110085034046 if you wanted more specific feedback from more experienced painters!
Think I've been staring at this for too long. C&C welcome
Thank you for all the input and feedback. I’m calling it done
It is really great. Congrats
Probably won't finish but enjoying the road of it
That’s so cute haha - amazing detail for a tiny model too!
I also worked on trying to make a leaf like shape using a piece of cork.. so fingers crossed it works !
Oooh super cool! Good luck!
I’m also unlikely to finish mine - I have today and tomorrow to paint it since we’re away this weekend.
Oh dang
Yeah I don't think I'll finish mine but it's okay
Yah I think at least this Paint Along got me painting the thing so that’s a win haha
Mayyyybe I can do it
The hair is daunting, and I was thinking some NMM for the armband
Finished in the nick of time!

Oh wow. That’s amazing. The skin is beautiful
Thank you!! ❤️
Have to call this one done since I'm on a trip
