#First attempt, not sure what to do after washing

Complete beginner. I started with a darker yellow base coat, then a brighter one. After that I put on a brownish wash. Once dried, I wanted to try to go back with the brighter yellow to re-establish the bright color, and this is where things sort of fell apart. The yellow turned greenish and inconsistent over the now darkened undercoat. Now the model looks grimy and dirty, with little depth. Is the key just to apply more layers, or should I use a different approach once the model has been washed?

The model is a PLA print, hence the detail loss on the model

Not sure what happened here, but if I were to guess, your wash wasn't fully dry.

I would probably soak the mini in isopropyl, use a toothbrush to strip the paint, and start over. Alternatively, don't worry about it, continue painting, call it done whenever, and try something else on the next mini. Nothing wrong with either option.

What paints are you using?

I'll try waiting longer for the wash to dry on the next mini and see if that helps!
Paints are all Citadel:
Averland Sunset
Yriel Yellow
Agrax Earthshade

Those should all work fine together. My best guess is that the wash wasn't fully dry, It could also be that it's just the yellow being so transparent that you can see the wash through it, which would be fixed with a second or potentially third layer. I don't use either of those yellows.

I'll try some more layers to see if that helps, and let the wash set in for a few more hours on the other minis and see if that was the issue. Will post progress. Thank you for your swift and helpful response 🙂

No problem. Remember to keep your layers thin. Don't try to add like 5 layers either.

One more thing, yellows are some of the trickiest colors to paint, partially because they have poor coverage on average.

Your biggest issue is using a wash on a print like this

#

The wash will enhance the layer lines and its an uphill battle from there, combined with the yellow it will be a huge task to make it look neat
