A few crew members are getting antsy about shore leave again, but we have just over three weeks left until our next planet-side leave. We've lost 40 of our crew to the FOMO Plague, but thus far it has been safely contained. Will we make it to the docking station in time to save the rest of the crew?

I find gold to be significantly more difficult than just kinda steel/iron metals. The one thing I’d say is just go ham on saturated colors. Like really rich browns and rich browny oranges. Makes it a bit easier to find a vibe. Looks good so far though and if that’s your first ever attempt, you’ll be golden demoning before long

For me this has been somewhat of an anxiety relief. For me it's calming to know that the other shoe has dropped and there is no other tiny bottle of paint coming to save the day, no better brush, no new gadget. The only solution for getting things painted now is just me and what I already own.

IMO, the best way to learn thinning is to be shown. It has a learning curve. If you have a webcam, hop into the voicechat here in the server and have some more experienced people walk you through it. Even better if you have a local club where you can have people mix and show you the right viscosity that you should be aiming for

I can’t believe it’s been almost three months. And I didn’t even use any of my exceptions (unless you count one primer bottle that I had to bought after mine was broken).

It's fixed lists. Buy one box, that's your army. Early play reviews are generally positive and confirm it's a quick play, nicely balanced game. Boards are consistent so it's more down to player skill than luck.

Because it standardises and simplifies a lot, there's a lot of scope for it to be a quick but in depth tactical game.

Because there's decks that randomise battle tactics and a few other things the game has complexity and interest but apparently it feels a bit better to play than AoS4 which has some balance issues

I'm watching to see if it becomes a thing in my area. I don't have a spearhead box so my entire Soulblight Gravelords Army is functionally useless for it lol, just because I don't have a Vamp lord on foot or Vargheists, but because there's no list building, you can get into it if one of your friends has the kit.

I have to say this was a surprisingly difficult challenge (that I failed once and then got redeemed). It's made me rethink my spending habits and my relationship with money and the hobby.

It feels like there are endless invitations to spend more money, and on stuff that just ends up on a shelf somewhere. There are so many releases of stuff for games, so much new plastic and paints and gadgets and things coming out all the time. Going in and out of FLGS 3 times a week for board game / TCG / wargaming meetups certainly made it harder to resist the urge to just pick up some paint I had an eye on, or seeing a neat way someone magnetized their bases and wanted to do the same, or wanting to get X while it was on sale...

Purchases I held off on:

• Skaventide box for AoS
• Yellow Vallejo speedpaint
• New release of Hametsu classes and minis
• Magnets for bases
• Corvus Belli Inifinity mech units
• Mantic Games sale

It was a fun challenge. It was hard in the end but didn’t feel it much after a month.
The only thing I bought was a black primer after my son broke my can. It was one of my exceptions but also considered ok according to the rules. That was all.

I started taking care of my brushes and my synthetic ones survived 3 months.
I couldn’t buy new paints so I had to learn how to mix them better.
I can’t buy airbrush paints to I need to learn to thin them correctly.
I can’t buy basing materials so I become creative with things around me (like breaking down electronics for robot basing part)
My pile of shame got a bit smaller and it is nice.

And… my husband is very happy

Also noticed that at the start of the 3 months I was awaiting 3 Kickstarter to arrive "soon" that I had backed last year, none of them had arrived since then and I'm pretty sure now one of them is a scam 😬

The hardest part was to get through the first two weeks for me, so many things I almost bought that would have ended up on my PoS or Kickstarter that I'd still wait for in a year

Made it! I can't paint much in the summer because I work at sea so I normally compensate by buying hobby stuff instead. My wallet is much happier and I'm excited to get back to the models I already have.
