Store bought. Rumbleslam is resin cast. I tried priming them with gesso and the gesso just wasn't sticking, so I stripped one of them and retried with regular brush on primer and it worked fine then, but I'm a dumbass and figured I could soak the rest of the team while I was painting the test mini to check my color scheme.

Big mistake. They went all floppy.

Yea I put them on the windowsill for 48 hours (closed window) from what I read on a Reddit post and they hardened a little. Giving them another day on the windowsill and then putting them on my work table if they feel a little harder to finish drying/evaporating.

It's not minipainting. For me boardgames with minis and without are still boardgames. I count boardgames as part of Tabletop. Minipainting is part of tabletop. Supporting minipainters is part of this as well as DND stuff. Same hobby budget same criteria for not buying stuff (for me)

I decided to go through my pile today. This is all but ~10 of my 67 unpainted miniatures. I'm not counting the 20-some Fallout Wasteland Warfare toy models i just printed because they're all less than 10mm in size. A modest pile! Not many at all!
So far the first replacement purchase I'm anticipating needing is a pack of 28mm wood discs that I use for bases. I have less than a dozen on-hand and use them to base most of my work. I'm planning on eventually getting into air dry clay for bases, but that requires some purchases. I could print resin bases but it feels more economical to buy the discs and save the resin for my models. My understanding is that this falls under the "universal exception" rule, since I will be out of bases. Shouldn't be too expensive at all.
First thing I'm doing is going through and cataloging all the Nozlur's minis i have (the white ones) and offering them to my friends. anything unpicked will be used for some speedpaint play.
Main focus for this week is finishing the mostly-painted WIPS you see on the right of the photo. I have some unpictured fallout minis i bought just before the challenge began that I'm gonna be working on too.
So far this challenge feels undaunting. I feel a bit guilty needing a replacement purchase so early on but that's mostly just bad timing. they're a need not a want so it feels fair to me.

Instead i got one of those AS196 versions. Dual oil free piston with a 3L tank. It worked great for a while but it was never really quiet, just not as loud. And lately it has been shaking a lot more, making weird noises and half-cycles so i figured it was time.

Good choice 😃, I'm sure you won't regret it, mine has a very small tank, just 1l, but it's very silent, I use it even at night when everyone is sleeping and I don't disturb anyone, in fact the wind from the airbrush in the mini does louder than him!

Question for instance of the universal exception.
I recently bought a mini (one of my exceptions) well in the building process I lost a piece of the critter on the dudes shoulder. Since I bought through a store and not direct. I don't think I can reach out there. I've been debating a while on milli put to learn to sculpt and solve problems like this or other stuff.
Would buying the materials for fixing this goof fail me.

just my two cents and apologies to s1ege, but as a fellow contestant I feel like is not an exception. Your ask is basically, can you buy miliput and (possibly?) some sculpting tools. If it's not part of your 3 exceptions, and it's not strictly a replacement for existing materials, then it's a new purchase and not exempt.

However, I would recommend:

1. reaching out to the maker, as some of them will provide free replacement parts
2. reaching out to your local community and asking if someone can give you some miliput and sculpting lessons
3. waiting till after the challenge to finish this mini

Again just my feelings here, but the blanket exemption for replacement paint should contain other hobbying tools, like if your only sprue cutters break and you have no assembled minis, or your last hobby knife blade is dull (and thus dangerous) or something else that conceivably fundamentally prevents you from continuing to work. If your favorite brush gets gummed up beyond repair but you have others you can use instead or your sprue cutters break but you have 16 models that are already assembled, then you should keep going.

I feel like the spirit of the competition here is, let's make our best effort to stop buying stuff and looking for exceptions, and work through the models we have with the tools and materials we have unless we lose something fundamental that would stop all progress
