SDSs prove hard to source for a lot of hobby stuff, but iron oxide meant for use in cosmetics recommend the use of respiratory protection when there is not adequate ventilation.

I found a SDS for an earth oxide pigment. Not Vallejo, but that doesn't really matter.

Basically: not a hazardous substance, but similar risks/precautions to any powdered materials.
I would say: avoid contact with skin and eyes, do not eat or breath.
For that I would use standard nitrile gloves and use a good anti-dust mask.
