Basecoating every part of the mini can be a good start before you start refining.

Your question "how to paint" is perhaps a little broad for a hobby help thread.

Try to specify what you're struggling with and it will be easier to give good advice. 🙂

From the look of your work so far, you just need to continue in the direction you're headed. 👍

As mentioned base coat every piece of the model. At that point you can add highlights or shadows.
Drybrushing can be a great technique to use for over the metal parts and wood
( dab a bigger brush in some paint. Rub away most of the paint from your paint brush on your paper ( or a drybrushing palette if you have one) . Then very lightly do downwards strokes only on the model . It may take a few repeated strokes as it should be slowly appearing / being applied. Don't try to force the paint on and take your time.)
