Looking to move away from my regular old plastic palette but I'm suuuuper. super. super. allergic to mold. I also have pretty severe contamination anxiety. The only reason I haven't gotten a wet palette is because the mold aspect stresses me out.

Would love suggestions for products that are specifically designed not to mold, as well as some best practice advice. Or should I just use a pop-it fidget lmao? ty in advance.

Well the easiest thing in my opinion is to just never close that wet palette beyond "during the same day". I also put a piece of copper (from an electric cable stripped from plastic skin) under the sponge. But really: not leaving the palette closed (its wetness is still useful during a session), and washing the sponge gently with soap once a week should be perfectly fine. 👍

Simple solution, let the wet pallete dry between uses. Don't leave it overnight. Also, you can soak it in vinegar or Hydrogen peroxide between uses too. I used Hydrogen peroxide. It cheap and no smelly and kills any mold that might try to grow.

ty both!! both really good to keep in mind

think i'll try to find something nice and stainless steel for good measure

I don't know how many nights I let my pallete sit before I noticed a spot of mold, but one night probably isn't bad.

why stainless steel?

I do believe wetgrass advertises thier wet pallet sponges as mold resistent. And so far ive forgotten about mine for a month and it didnt have mold. I do always leave it cracked tho so it will dry out

I feel like a glass palette is probably going to be easier or at least less stressful for you.

For what it is worth, I dry out my wet palette between every session.

Glass palette is mainly for oil though.

#

I did get the glass insert for my RGG wet pallete, it's great.

You can def use acrylics on glass too. Owner of ProAcryl / Monument Hobbies does.

Yeah regrassgames claims to be mold resistant, never had any issues with it

#

I usually squeeze the sponge after working and dry the case with a paper towel and leave it open overnight

Letting the sponge dry out regularly is the best defense.

I just clean my palette after each session = wringing out the sponge and putting it on the dry rack. Washing the paper and reusing it for the next time. Never had mold with this.

Only got mold and copper didn't help when I left it over night with water

I have the redgrassgames one, it still got mold, but I think I was using it for over a week before I turned it over and noticed it on the bottom. I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide and have made sure to not use it more than overnight since.

New sponges, I only bought it near the middle of last year. But resistant isn't proof. I'm pretty sure I just covered a wet sponge too many days in a row. It would have probably been worse than a single mold spot if I were using someone else's sponge.

That is highly speculative. I don't use the RGG pallete (use a Masterson's which is pretty no-frills) and as long as I dry the sponge the issues are minimal. I just rotate two sponges and have a dry one ready, don't use a sponge generally more than two days in a row. If I forget and don't paint a week between sessions, I clean the palette and put the dry one in and wash the old one

Copper has definitely helped me with my smell issues too.

#

But I'm an outlier in palette use, I usually keep mine wet for three to four weeks

We got a sheet from a home improvement store for a couple bucks and just cut little 1"x.5"sh rectangles out and put them under the sponge
